A Beautiful Luxury Stay in Nara During Cherry Blossom Season
JW Marriott Hotel Nara was a wonderful place to begin our Japan trip. The hotel is beautiful, with an elegant lobby, stunning rooms, and excellent facilities that truly live up to the JW Marriott standard.
The food was outstanding throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, dinner, and room service, with every meal being beautifully prepared and delicious.
The gym was another highlight. It was spotless, well maintained, and equipped with a great range of modern equipment, making it easy to keep up with our workouts while travelling.
The location was also excellent, especially during cherry blossom season. It is just a short walk from the iconic Saho River, where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, making it the perfect base for exploring one of Nara’s most beautiful sights.
The staff were warm, professional, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay, and we genuinely appreciated their hospitality.
The only disappointment was that, despite holding Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status, we were not offered an early check in. After a long journey from Australia, including a 10 hour flight, a 2 hour train journey, and a 1 hour car transfer, it was quite exhausting to spend several more hours wandering around the city while waiting for our room. We completely understand that early check in is subject to availability and is not guaranteed, but it would have made a significant difference after such a long trip.
Overall, this was a fantastic stay, and we would happily return. The beautiful hotel, exceptional food, excellent gym, friendly staff, and wonderful location made it a memorable start to our time in Japan.

Exceptional service and property.
My family and I just completed an exceptional stay at JW Marriott Nara, where we booked two rooms, and I can honestly say this has been one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had.
From the moment we arrived until the day we checked out, every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcome. The level of hospitality, attention to detail, and care shown to our family was simply outstanding. Every request was handled with warmth, professionalism, and a smile.
A very special thank you to the entire breakfast team, who made every morning such a wonderful experience with their attentive and friendly service. I’d also like to recognize Mali from Concierge, originally from Sri Lanka, whose kindness, knowledge, and willingness to help made our trip even more memorable. The housekeeping team kept our rooms immaculate, and their attention to detail did not go unnoticed. Finally, my sincere appreciation to the General Manager, whose leadership is clearly reflected in every aspect of this incredible property.

Wonderful experience at SPA by JW.
I had a wonderful experience at SPA by JW NARA. The room was clean, comfortable, and very relaxing. Haruka-san, my therapist, was incredibly kind and professional. She made me feel comfortable and completely relaxed throughout the one and half hour experience.
The massage bed was soft and warm. The tea was served at just the right time and was a thoughtful touch.

Memorable Stay at JW Marriott Nara
My wife and I had an overall great stay at the JW Marriott Nara and found the food, accommodations and service (for the most part) to be top-notch. Highlights include:
1. The food at the executive lounge and breakfast buffet was superb. Had to wait 30 minutes for a table at the lounge one night but other than that found the lounge to be a great place to escape the heat and grab a snack and cold drink.
2. We much appreciated Hien’s easygoing approach after stepping in to help us work through some things at check-in.
3. Appreciated being able to borrow bikes to explore nearby temples and the Heijo-kyo sites.
4. Appreciated the shuttle service from the main train stations and the ability to use neighboring Novotel’s shuttle to Saidai-ji station.
5. The hotel has a beautiful indoor pool and hot tub. Had to make a reservation in advance to use the pool but was able to secure a spot whenever we wanted to take a swim.
Couple of minor issues:
1. Coming from Southeast Asia we have often found that we have to adjust to different rules when we stay at Marriott hotels during our trips back to Japan. During our last trip, the hotel we stayed at in Kyushu was doing a promotion on customized pillows for Bonvoy elite members. We picked the pillows we liked and then were told that there was a surcharge for the particular pillows that we had picked out. For our stay at the JW Nara last week, our request to use suite upgrades was denied prior to our arrival, but the staff attempted to make up for this by offering us an upgrade when we checked in. We discussed a couple of different room types with the staff, but after we picked a room we were subsequently informed that that particular room type would require a 5,000 yen surcharge. We ended up getting an upgraded room that we found to be quite comfortable, but we sometimes find ourselves scratching our heads wondering why Marriott properties in Japan make issues of things that we’ve never found to be an issue at the Marriott properties we’ve stayed at elsewhere in Asia.
2. It was a little frustrating that most of the non-local staff members would only address my wife in Japanese and me in English. Having the breakfast menu explained twice and order questions repeated in two languages became a bit annoying by the end of our stay. Given how personalized other aspects of our experience was, it would have been nice if the staff had adjusted their approach to our situation during our stay.
