Nice Japanese-modern experience on Sado Island

We had a truly wonderful stay at Hotel Oosado. The staff were exceptionally kind, attentive and helpful throughout our visit, and they made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. The welcome drinks were a lovely touch and immediately created a relaxed atmosphere.
Our room was spacious and beautifully designed, combining Japanese heritage and traditional details with all the modern amenities needed for a comfortable stay. We also loved being able to wear the provided yukata around the hotel, which made the experience feel even more authentically Japanese.
The kaiseki dinners were a real highlight. Every course was beautifully presented, delicious and prepared with excellent seasonal and local ingredients. The choice between the spacious public onsen and a more private onsen experience was another major advantage. Relaxing in the hot water while enjoying the peaceful surroundings and views over the Sea of Japan was unforgettable.
Hotel Oosado offers a perfect combination of warm hospitality, Japanese tradition, modern comfort and excellent food. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Sado Island.

Great Hotel with ocean view

The view was magnificent, offering a 180-degree panorama of the horizon.
Although it was raining earlier in the day, the sun appeared at dusk, and watching the sunset from the hotel's footbath was a moving experience.

Our stay at Hotel Oosado was outstanding. From arrival to departure the hotel staff was helpful, friendly, courteous and professional. Our suite was clean, large and well appointed with all the modern amenities one could want in a 5-star hotel. The ocean view from our balcony was beautiful and breathtaking. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of Japanese and western style dishes. Our dinner kaiseiki was outstanding in taste and presentation that highlighted all the great seafood and vegetables from around Sado Island. We enjoyed our stay and was sad to leave such a wonderful place. We would definitely stay at Hotel Oosado on our next visit to Sado Island and would not hesitate to recommend this location to anyone.

Pricey, but the highest quality option in Sado Island

We intended to explore Sado Island to visit the Sado Kinzan Gold Mines, roam around the well-preserved Shukunegi Village, check out the native Toki birds at Toki no Mori Park, and learn about the island's history at the Sado History Museum. From our research, it appeared that the default option for a high-end stay was Hotel Oosado. The property also had a spacious and comfortable 108m² Premium Suite that featured a terrace with an open-air onsen (hot spring) bath. While the stay was an extremely pricey one (there are far less expensive rooms and stay packages), we were satisfied with the overall experience and am glad we bit the bullet for a superior accommodation.
While Hotel Oosado has a breakfast-only plan, given where it's located, you'll definitely want to start your day with a meal at the property. We not only opted with a half-board (breakfast and dinner) plan, we paid extra (35,000 yen per night for two) for an upgraded course. We're glad we went with this plan, as they did a wonderful job in representing the finest ingredients and recipes that Sado Island (and Niigata Prefecture overall) had to offer. This included Red Snow Crab, Abalone, Murakami Wagyu Beef, and Sado Melon and Fig. On the second night, hey brought out a seafood hot pot with the broth from Shrimp Tomalley (Ebi-miso), which was delightful. The sashimi course - Japanese Red Seaperch, Sea Urchin, Toro, Japanese Amberjack and Red Sea Bream - were all local and all awesome. As a bonus, Premium Suite guests get meals served in a private room, leading to an intimate and interactive experience with our dedicated server.
By comparison to the elaborate dinner, breakfast is a buffet affair, which we appreciated since we wanted an early start to our touring day, and were able to finish our meals within 30 minutes with a full and satisfied stomach. The spread featured a mixture of Japanese and Western options to cater to everyone's palate.
The Premium Suite was relatively modern with muted tones and high quality furnishings. The Suite had a Western living room along with a dining table and two bedrooms. The expansive balcony spanned the length of the room, and was equipped with a love seat and lounge chair, and an onsen hot tub at one end. The deck is covered overhead, so you can enjoy the views and fresh air even if it's raining outside. While we mainly spent our time touring the island, the tranquil vibe definitely aided in reducing our blood pressure - the serenity of the setting was unforgettable. One thing to note about the hot springs - while our Premium Suite's onsen was pure, it is not piped in directly from nearby, but rather trucked in to Oosado, and it's recirculated. I was told that the private rental bath is about 50% onsen and the communal bath (Daiyokujo) is about 30% onsen.
Service was hosted at a very high standard. We were warmly greeted with smiles each time we returned to Oosado, and while we speak the language and did not require concierge services, staff were always around and frequently asked whether there was anything they could do for us. Finally, our private dinner server was well versed in each course and was able to explain the intricacies in great detail.
While we could have easily spent less at Oosado, and stayed in a non-Premium Suite accommodation and feasted on their standard dinner offering, our decision to go all-in on the property's highest quality experience was something we're glad that we opted into.
