Short Sapporo Break in April
We had a lovely stay at Sapporo Hotel by Granbell with our family of three. The room was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate our adult son, along with all our luggage.
The breakfast buffet was definitely a highlight! There was a great variety of choices, but the star of the show was the special freshly baked bun that would be wheeled out piping hot. You literally had about two minutes before it disappeared! It was that good!
On the day of our check-out, we received the unfortunate news that our domestic flight had been cancelled. I was unable to make the necessary changes through my mobile, but the front desk team came to our rescue. A special thank you to Aki-san, who patiently assisted us with the changes and made what could have been a very stressful situation so much easier. Remarkable service and truly appreciated!
We would definitely love to return to Granbell. Our only consideration would be the distance from the train station, especially when travelling with luggage. We visited in April, and even then, the walk with our luggage was already quite a test. I can imagine it being even more challenging during the winter months with the cold and snow. For our departure, we decided to arrange a taxi directly from the hotel lobby to the train station, which made things much easier.
Overall, a wonderful stay with great hospitality, a comfortable room and an excellent breakfast. We would happily return to Sapporo Hotel by Granbell—especially for that freshly baked bun! ❤️

The facility is high-level, but...
The facilities and equipment were stylish and beautiful, and although the staff was charming, it didn't seem like a very high level. The fact that there are so many overseas customers, but they are not able to cope with manners at all, is a disappointing evaluation for a Japanese hotel.
Especially in the bath, there are tattoos, loud voices, towel hot water, sweaty water bath, lemon water in the bathtub, etc., you can do whatever you want.
The hotel's manners are also written on small pieces of paper to a certain extent, and the staff who come to clean them turn a blind eye, so I don't expect them at all.
Even though the luxury atmosphere is well out, I think it's a waste to feel that everything is destroyed by foreigners. It is unavoidable if we abandon Japaneseness as a business model, but I can only say that it is disappointing for us as Japanese people as well.

Ok.....
It was er.... ok. Big hotel with all the usual corporate trimmings inc onsen and restaurant. The good bits? Nice room, well sized surf nice toiletries, fridge etc. Staff were lovely and the breakfast buffet fantastic. The onsen lounge on the top floor was also a great space to relax and hang out (inc a series of giant bean bags,).
The less good bits? Waiting ages for the lifts which seemed to move at a glacial place. Waiting nearly an hour for a table at breakfast (at 8am). Bar staff not understanding drinks orders (in Japanese). Finally the onsen was really disappointing. Felt a little dirty, not enough of anything for the numbers using it (inc wash booths, sinks, hair dryers etc). There were only 4 baths, of which one was broken. I think they get a lot of international tourists as the noise and lack of respect in the onsen didn't make for a nice experience.
All in, an ok hotel and you could definitely do worse. However, you could do much much better and get a far nicer experience in Sapporo.

Trying to be polite but there were some flaws with this hotel. The location is likely best for business travelers, I guess? My fault booking it, but fyi. We have a huge room for Japanese standards, so there’s that. The carpets are stained, a poor choice in pattern for a hotel, especially considering how spotless Japan is. The staff are young kids so not going to comment on that, take it as you will… my wife witnessed an altercation in the laundry room and being from America that’s an everyday thing for us but it was crazy behavior for Japan(I image you can guess where the the lady was from that removed another guests laundry from a machine, and it’s not Japan, America or Australia, so that was off putting) the combine in the hotel was great as an amenity. It has one of the more unusual bathroom setups I’ve seen haha(pictured) there was no nonsense with my folio which is good. All that being said Sapporo is a beautiful place with lovely people. If this hotel is your only opportunity to visit then absolutely do. Now if you have alternative options for accommodations, I’d take them personally. One thing to note: there’s a little coffee shop that I think opened at 730ish around the block named Ritaru coffee camillia, I think, and it was so dope! Literally the best coffee I’ve ever had. It’s small and quaint and totally awesome. Go there and be polite!!

New, well designed hotel. Breakfast is good. Jounior suite with terrace is overrated. Weird layout and not spacious for tariffs.
