Couples beach get away
We had a great experience at the Hotel Sea Shell. The views from this hotel are incredible and made for a relaxing experience. The standout feature from our stay was the hospitality and food at the hotel. We felt cared for throughout our trip. This is an excellent choice for those looking for a beach getaway to Shimoda!

Apparently staff shortages
The place is very nice and clean. The food is exceptionally good (if you get something) and very lovingly arranged. The staff is very friendly.
Here's what I'm complaining about.
From a hotel with a restaurant, I expect to be able to eat there. In the afternoon of our arrival we asked for dinner. We were then made aware that you have to order dinner the day before (!!).
We did that for the second day. Unfortunately, this information was not communicated and so there was also no dinner on the second evening. On the third day it worked out. The food was outstandingly good, wonderfully arranged, an absolute sensation. We then immediately booked dinner again after dinner for our fourth and final evening. However, we were then unfortunately informed that this is not possible due to staff shortages!!
This is intolerable in my view. A hotel must be able to offer a dinner for its guests, even without pre-ordering. Even if it's just something simple. The fact that I have to pre-order such a dinner as we had on the third evening, I can understand. But no offer at all, you can't do that.

Stunning views
We were delighted to find a spacious, tastefully decorated suite in this remote location. We sat for hours reading and looking at the sea. A perfect break from the big cities. The dinner was fabulous.
Only downside: inflexible meal times; breakfast at 08:00 or 08:30, dinner at 18:00/18:30.
Day trip suggestion: the 7 waterfalls at Kawazu

Beautiful view in a surfer's town
My husband booked this hotel for one night, for a family/business trip. He believed it was a "hotel" from the website but it is a B&B or as Japanese say, "pension". Still it was very nice. It's off a little hidden road but the view is amazing! The staff were polite and friendly, but not overbearing. I really appreciated it that they didn't ask us a lot of questions--sometimes you just want to chill and they let us do that. So for me, it was a big plus.
The theme is nice-lots of pretty artwork and of course, sea shells!
We picked the jacuzzi room for our daughter since it was a bit too cold to swim. She loved it! My husband complained that the aircon was weak, but it was ok for me. The room was clean but there were some stains on the shelf and a few hairs on the rug, the tv was small. Honestly, it wasn't a big deal at all because I don't watch tv and the jacuzzi tub made up for it!!! The private onsen (hot springs bath) was a nice touch for my husband and daughter too.
We didn't pick the dinner set, but we did have a wonderful breakfast in the morning. Lots of breads (toast, rolls, jams, etc) and the lobster soup was very good! We picked the western breakfast, but a Japanese option is included. Only one "complaint"--I wonder why we were charged a fee for 3 year old but she didn't receive a meal of her own? It ended up being ok, because she wanted toast and bacon, so she ate mine. I think the staff should clarify that if the fee is just for her being there because there was no extra meal or towels for her, just a kid's plate and slippers.
I would recommend this place to others. We had a nice stay because of this place. It was quaint, walking distance to the beach and has a great view. If you are looking for amazing hospitality, sparkling rooms and overbearing service, go elsewhere. But if you want to escape to a quiet, clean place in Shimoda with good food-go here!

細い道を上がったところにあり、白い建物からリゾート感が漂います
館内もエントランスからマリンリゾート感いっぱい
部屋はバストイレ付きの部屋で白地に赤いアクセントの入った部屋
タイルや小物もカワイイ感じでセンスがいい
窓からは海が見えていて、シーズンオフだったこともありプライベート感が高いです
海を見ながらのんびり過ごすにはもってこいの環境
貸切のお風呂もあります
食事はダイニングでフレンチベースの料理でとても美味しい
ブイヤベースがめちゃくちゃ美味しいです
