Value per dollar
Just what I wanted in a hotel room. It was quiet, clean and offered the appropriate conveniences. (flat screen TV, comfortable bed, telephone and morning coffee) The location was ideal (downtown Flin Flon) and there was a very good restaurant and lounge on the premises.

A truely seedy little spot. Not quite the Bates Motel but,,,
It is cheap... and I don't mind basic accomodaton as I stay on a budget as I travel the north selling my solar powered snow blowers... I think however I will look for a new place tomorrow... Really strong old cigarette smell and luke warm water only... cold feel in the room, But as I say, it is very inexpensive

Exploring Flin Flon
Eyeing up the Royal from the outside it looks pretty run down. We stopped to have dinner & a beve here as was closest place we saw. Once inside I was surprised as the place was very clean, the restaurant was quaint,clean. There was only 1 girl working the day shift that day but she kept up with her customers quite well & still had a smile on her face. The food was very good & price was decent.

Dated but clean enough and probably authentic for Flin Flonn
First impression was a little off as it's on the sort of run-down main street in the "historic" downtown part of town, and the brick building is showing some signs of wear. Lobby was Spartan but clean. Check-in was efficient enough and proprietor amenable. No elevator to rooms (all rooms on upper levels). First impression of room was that it was a little dark, though the CFL lights soon warmed up a bit more; the dark lampshade over the main light doesn't help, though. Room dated ('50s-esque) but clean enough for a basic motel room. Room reasonably roomy for the time period the hotel was built in; pretty basic but with a small table and chairs and a fridge and microwave. A/C older and a little loud but not annoying and worked reasonably well. Large-ish flat-screen TV with basic Canadian stations. Bathroom also dated but hardware and tiling in good order and clean. No complaints with stay; fine for the price (relative to other rural Canadian properties).
Wifi provided by MTS DSL and of mediocre but functional speed (typical for the region).
Another reviewer mentioned threatening signs in the parking lot regarding stolen valuables; I was looking for them but they're just the standard "management not responsible for damage or theft," etc. Parking lot is in the alley behind the hotel, but I didn't see any loiterers or vagrants or anything in the area. Proprietor said street parking out front and parking in the lot out back are both perfectly fine; a local taxi driver concurred.
TripAdvisor reviews of the attached hotel restaurant are positive, though there are a few other places in very easy walking distance as well. Other options, including fast food, are a short drive into the more modern "suburban" area of the city east of the downtown area along route 10A.
In summary, a perfectly fine place to stay if your expectations are realistic for the locale and type of property this is.

Clean but old Not the best part of town. Parking is a bit sketchy. Sign in parking lot said to secure all valuables as it could be gone in the morning.
Staff not the best informed. We booked on trip adviser and they couldn't find our reservation so we had to pay for room again. Hopefully we don't get charged twice. Not sure whose error this is. They had no record of the reservation. We were only there one night so can't say much more about it. Price was reasonable for what you got.
