Special experience to sleep in an old prison

Special experience in a nice hostel. Beds are comfortable, breakfast is very good (scrambled eggs). The only downside is that Ottawa is a somewhat boring city.

Excellent service, a one-of-a-kind experience. Helpful staff and a very clean establishment. I plan to return during my stays in Ottawa.

More than what you expect

I had the opportunity to stay one night and I was surprised by the atmosphere and the good vibes of the place. Really well restored and magical in a way.
Selma, the receptionist, was really helpful and caring.
I recommend the place with no doubts.

The staff is super friendly and helpful, the beds are comfortable, pretty good breakfast and I really appreciate how they double down on the jail theme. The details and tour are absolutely great. Also the gated parking is great and easy to use once you figure out the QR scanner.
However the nature of the building made it hard for me to get a full sleep. The hallways are designed to echo so if you’re a light sleeper you might wake up to footsteps, whispers or a cell door accidentally slamming. (The guests in my cellblock tried to be quiet but it happens)
Also warning that the site is definitely haunted and even if you’re skeptical like I was you may get an active night. Most things I could explain away due to other guests making sounds but on my first night in cell 608 I did wake up at around 4am to what I can only describe as a ghostly figure laying beside me in bed. I don’t expect anyone to believe me, I am still trying to wrap my head around it myself but I positive my experience was real. I don’t know how else to explain it. I didn’t feel threatened by the spirit at any point but still a lot to process. My cellmate in the bunk above didn’t see anything though.
Anyway possible ghosts aside, this is a great location within walking distance of key sights and has great staff that is keeping history alive.

Smoke in Mirrors Theft

Accidentally left airpods in room, and talked with staff who verified that they were there in lost and found, and I made it clear that it would be a few weeks before I'd be able to return to collect them due to me living 5 hours away. Fast forward a few weeks and findmy app showed they were moving in Ottawa, I informed the staff of this, and they hung up my call after saying they would get back to me after looking into the matter. Never heard back... Insanely, I found them being sold on facebook marketplace a few weeks later, and after some due-diligence discovered them to be a staff member. Absolutely never going near here again. Please watch your items, as the staff here shouldn't be trusted, times aren't always the greatest, but these operations are sick.
