Community type hostel, friendly. Great inspiring encounters, experience and open-mindedness Soberlab.

Great encounters, owner committed to the well-being of people. I enjoyed my experience overall, Soberlab mission. (Read on their site)
-Know that you cannot consume alcohol.
The people present are welcoming and make sure we feel at home. Family climate, I felt comfortable there.
I only booked 1 night, because I was passing through the region.
-photos are not representative. Hostel a little dated, but clean, tidy, poorly soundproofed windows.
- too much heating, comfortable average bed, cold shower. The back room is located next to a busy road.
Ultimately, choosing this lodge means supporting a cause. It takes an open mind and a desire to interact with inspiring people. Bravo to the owner for the vocation.

Close to busy road

We liked our stay here and enjoyed the meals but the location was not great. Next time, I think I’d pick a different inn. It was very close to a noisy road, which greatly reduces the charm. Also, I was surprised that Ginette was not open to hearing any feedback about an important partner travel company that she recommends. Being in the travel industry, I would think she would be eager to learn how her customers like the companies she recommends. But she basically said, “go talk to them, not my problem.” Yes, I did talk to them. So buyer beware.

Beware of high cancellation fee

We have booked the P'tit Train du Nord package with the Auberge coordinating B&B and luggage transfers several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed our bike trip. We booked again to take our adult son and partner. On 28 June I informed Ginette that our son had sufferred a sports injury to his knee, and after consultation with a surgeon determined we had to cancel our 5-8 August trip. Ginette has refused to return any portion of our $600 deposit; when I spoke to her 30 June, following news from a sports injury clinic that our son should be fitted with a brace and may be able to ride after all, she told me that our spaces were already sold. No refund, no offer of a credit towards another date. Despite giving 5 weeks`notice, I am out $600 and will not deal with this company again.

You were 100% aware that the 30% deposit was not refundable, no matter when cancellation is done, it is written on your invoice, on the email you got and on the website

Good option right on the P'tit Train du Nord

We stayed here on our last night of the P'tit Train du Nord, and were happy that it was basically right on the trail (with a sign directing guests to the auberge about 200m away). We were happy with our room and the dinner provided, although were also happy that there was an amazingly stocked grocery store about 1 minute walk down the highway (visible from the auberge) so that we could get supplies for a picnic lunch the next day. If guests didn't want to eat dinner or breakfast here, they could find plenty of self-catering options at this store (which also has a small take-out/fast food component). They were also always very quick at responding to my inquiries before our arrival, which I really appreciated.
A few things that could have been better:
-The arrival time was a bit inflexible: I called to let them know that we would be a bit later than 5pm, and they didn't seem too pleased. We ended up hurrying past a beautiful stretch of Val David/Val Morin, including the beach and some lovely river stops, to accommodate the Auberge, which didn't seem right as paying guests. While I appreciate that it is a smaller operation with limited staff,, it would have been nice to be able to negotiate a later arrival time.
-The breakfast was nice but way too sweet to gear us up properly for our last stint of cycling. More protein and less sugar would have been appreciated.
Still a good stop overall, but if we do the P'tit Train again we might try stopping in Val David instead.

Charming if you stay inside

The auberge is in a charming old house, just a couple of minutes off the Petit train du Nord bike path. This was our 3rd B&B while biking from Mont Laurier to St Jerome. First the good - we had a room at the back of the house on the second floor, with attached bath. Everything was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The decorations were very homey and pleasant.
The not so good: the auberge is directly on a very busy and very loud road. Don't plan to spend any time relaxing outside or to have the windows open in your room. Cars hit the gas to get up the hill and during daylight hours they never stop. Perhaps it slows down a bit at night, we kept our window tightly closed. It it impossible to hold a conversation outside. It is also too far to really walk back to the river on the bike path.
Our stay included a meal (a meat or fish fondue) as part of our package. It was by far the worst of our three included dinners. As opposed to the typical Québécois fondue "chinois" the meat was served in chunks, not thin slices. Those with chicken were always wondering if it was cooked or not, cutting it and sticking it back in. The meat was served with baby potatoes and broccoli and a sauce that looked and tasted a lot like 1000 island salad dressing. The best I can say is that we were not hungry after eating. Desert was fine, a store bought chocolate cake. There were no other choices for dinner or dessert. Breakfast (also included) was better than dinner but did not even come close to the two previous breakfasts included in our trip package.
Our hostess was very pleasant and we did have a good night's sleep.
