A Neglected Hotel With Great Potential
Unfortunately, the building appears to have not enjoyed a coat of paint on the outside for quite a while. Its once white paint now looks greyish and old in many places. Out of curiousity, I booked a room for a night here on 15th September 2017.
The receptionist was warm and welcoming. The winding stairs to our room were carpeted and the great architectural thoughts put to building this hotel were evident in many ways. Unfortunately, the work needed to maintain this initial effort has not been that good.
The room (104) though fairly spacious had an odd (to me) colour combination. The bathroom door was falling apart on the lower side with its plywood cover peeling off. Paint in the bathroom is also peeling off with a shower that looks quite ancient and no shower curtain. The water, though hard, had enough pressure to give you a warm and relaxing feel after a disturbed sleep night.
The storage area is spacious enough but again, the beautiful furnishing has been neglected for too long so that the once glistening varnish is a pale shadow of its former self. The interior of the storage units is also dull with stuck dirt.
Although we took the room as a couple, only one water bottle was provided. A glass that had obviously not been washed for days was on the table. Again, only one pair of slippers was provided.
The bed was spacious enough for two but not too comfortable for a couple. The mosquito net had holes in it and I had to wake up at night,severally, to tackle mosquitoes that had found their way in. Very disturbed sleep.
The breakfast was average and had to wait for so long before we got it.
Kenvash, is like a neglected child that if cleaned and taken good care off can grow to be great and at per with other great B&Bs in Naivasha or anywhere else at that in Kenya. For 3500 Kenya shillings for bed and breakfast, if you have the time, I would rather you do your window-shopping first, before settling on Kenvash. If however, you are pressed for time or have no other choice, then Kenvash can still be an average choice to lay your tired bones.
I would like to visit this place again in 6-12 months and see whether the management has thought of taking better care of this potential landmark hotel in Naivasha town.
Oh, by the way, did I mention that we had to stay in the dark when there was a power outage? Not even a candle was provide for our comfort. Either the hotel doesn't have a power generator for backup or it was not working on that night. The phone on the desk was dead and the only way to contact the desk was feeling your way in the dark to the reception area. We opted to stay in the room for the 30-40 minutes it took for the power to resume.
