A serene retreat close to Rio, Celeste, and national Park, even though there was a bit of language barrier. The front desk was kind and we figured it out. She even helped us book a night tour. The property grounds were beautiful. It felt like you were in the jungle. There is no AC, but there is fans in the room. The hammock outside the Villa was a nice touch and you had your own privacy. It’s not a huge room but cosy enough and clean and hot water, which is a huge plus . We seen a Pezzotti by the front eating bananas, which was really cool. The place is really taken care of.

Great wildlife, basic accommodation

This hotel is next door to a 5 star resort. We stayed here as part of a tour so I have no idea what we paid. Accommodation was super basic (backpacker basic) although I am told the bungalows were slightly better but suffered from road noise. Nowhere had AC. Pool was acceptable. Hammocks outside the rooms were the only positive, the wildlife was insane, coati’s, iguanas, sloths, snakes

No repetition

Catarata Rio Celeste Hotel is located near the entrance to the national park and has 4 bungalows, a suite and some standard rooms. We were lucky enough to get a bungalow with its own garden, jacuzzi and outdoor shower. The garden is very nice, the pool offers refreshment after the hike. However, the bungalows are only very rudimentarily equipped. The bed was tiny (1.20 max for 2 person), there is no wardrobe, shelf, hooks etc. to hang anything. Also no shelf or hooks in the bathroom. The whirlpool bath is yellowed and has cracks and does not invite use, the outdoor shower is cold. There are also no bedside tables, bedside lamps and no safe. The street is very loud to hear.The staff is very nice, the breakfast below Costa Rican standard. We would recommend staying here for a maximum of one night or spending an extra night in La Fortuna or Monteverde. The Tenorio National Park offers a nice but crowded hike to the waterfall and the light blue river, we would skip the Tenorio next time.

Great location and nature

We had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Hotel Catarata Río Celeste as part of a Costa Rica tour, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! The location of the hotel is simply fantastic – in the middle of the lush rainforest and just a short walk from the Celeste River, one of Costa Rica’s most impressive natural wonders.
The whole staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They have always tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible, and have given us many helpful tips for excursions in the area.
Our room was spacious, clean and cozy, with a rustic charm that perfectly suits the natural environment. We especially enjoyed the large windows through which we could hear the birdsong and the sounds of the forest – just magical!
The food in the hotel restaurant was a real highlight. The food was prepared with fresh, local ingredients, and we particularly enjoyed the selection of traditional dishes. Every meal was a treat!
The proximity to Tenorio Volcano National Park was a big plus for us. The hike to the sky blue lagoon and impressive waterfall was breathtaking, and it was wonderful to return to the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel after an eventful day.
We highly recommend the Hotel Catarata Río Celeste – whether for nature lovers, adventure seekers or anyone who wants to take a break amidst the impressive nature of Costa Rica. Many thanks to the entire team for this unforgettable time!
