Renovate or detonate

This hotel has some shiny bits that give a false impression of what lies behind doors . We had a room that would’ve been fabulous in 1970. It was really a suite . It had a fridge which was good and a kettle. The air con was completely ineffective so we had to leave the windows open which made it a bit noisy.
We saw some of our neighbours rooms , a twin and a single and they were very small. The twin had a cracked toilet cistern which was leaking.
There is a nice pool with the worst pool surrounds and most uncomfortable Sun loungers I’ve ever come across .
When we left the hotel the porter was still asleep outside.
The coffee machine wasn’t working at breakfast. There are just a lot of jobs that need doing here…

One night only

It's a disappointment, seriously needs a renovation. Room size was ok, but everything very old fashioned. There was either very hot or totally cold water in the shower, so caution and patience needed to avoid burning or freezing. Decent breakfast, however.

Good hotel

There are comfortable conditions here, clean rooms. You can notice good service. The guests are mainly from Russia and other countries. I really liked the presidential numbers. The hotel restaurant offers a variety of delicious dishes. Located in a good location

Now Sunrise 1 needs a complete refit and modernisation

For many years I have been loyal to Sunrise 1, the original small guesthouse near the park. But this time I decided to move out to the new Rayan Hotel just a couple of blocks away, and found a much, much more comfortable, modern hotel with wonderful breakfast and coffee for less money.The owners/managers of Sunrise 1 must have invested a lot in building Sunrise 2 but they have left poor old Sunrise 1 to quietly moulder away. Not many people stay there now, I think. The rooms are not updated, the mattress is lumpy with old sheets, the stair carpet is filthy, hall lights flicker, there is no beer, no hot meal was available for supper, and the wifi is unstable. So from now on, I will stay at Rayan hotel for my visits.

Two Sunrise Hotels trade on confusion

First off, there are two Sunrise Hotels. One is close to the city centre and bazaar, has a swimming pool and looks new. The other one - labelled here as Sunrise Guesthouse but labelled as Sunrise Hotel elsewhere - is about 3km from the centre, situated on a dual carriageway without any obvious shops or restaurants in the vicinity. We thought we had booked in the other Sunrise but our booking had been given away to someone who had booked in this one - so we were sent up the road to stay here.
This Sunrise is old and tired, everything feels grimy and there is a funny smell about the place. Our room was gloomy and dark. The reception area is uncomfortable and the huge chairs mean very few people can sit here at once - which is a shame because this is where the wifi works best.
The breakfast buffet was a bit of a highlight, though, especially the day they had meatballs/burgers. And the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
My top tip is to stay at another hotel where you know what you'll get.
