Great Value for Money, but Not Quite a Five- Star Experience
Five Avenue Hotel in Georgetown is advertised as a five-star hotel, but in my opinion, the experience is more like that of a standard, decent hotel rather than a true five-star property. The service is perfectly normal, but there is nothing particularly remarkable about it.
The breakfast was also quite average, with a fairly standard selection and nothing particularly memorable.
That said, the hotel is very clean, in an excellent location, and provides everything you need for a comfortable stay. The best thing about it is definitely the value for money, which I find outstanding.
For the price you pay, I consider it a very good and affordable option for staying in Penang. If you are not looking for luxury or the level of service you would normally expect from a five-star hotel, I would definitely recommend it.

5 star comfort
What a beautiful expansive entrance, with its marble and chandeliers, and top notch staff to greet 4 of us. We had 10th floor rooms with amazing views of the city and the rooms were so comfortable, with good bed linens and bath towels. On investigating further the 17th floor had a fantastic rooftop pool.The lobby bar was a pleasant place too for relaxing in the evening.Breakfasts were amazing, being the largest buffet display of foods for all nationalities we had encountered. The breakfast dining area was huge, but. Comfy, and coped with big numbers of guests.
In all, we had a very pleasant 5 nights in this lovely 5 star hotel and would certainly recommend.

Would not recommend
Really bad check-in experience, Breakfast was a disaster (dirty tables and floor, extremely loud, long waiting, not a good variety and food quality). Rooms are ok.
We are still waiting for our deposit back (left nearly 7 weeks ago).

Modern, welcoming and a very pleasant surprise!
My father and I stayed at Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang in August 2026, and we were genuinely very pleasantly surprised by our experience.
The hotel is still relatively new, and this is immediately noticeable throughout the property. Everything feels modern, fresh and well maintained. Our room was excellent — spacious, comfortable and equipped with modern furnishings and facilities. The overall design feels contemporary and of a very good standard.
What impressed us most, however, was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was exceptionally kind and welcoming, from the bell team and reception staff to the teams at Tapas and the New York restaurant. The service throughout our stay was consistently friendly and attentive.
We also really enjoyed the food. Everything we tried at the hotel's restaurants was very good, and the overall food and beverage experience was one of the highlights of our stay. One small detail that we particularly appreciated was being allowed to take alcoholic beverages purchased from the bar back to our room. This may sound simple, but many hotels do not permit it, so having that flexibility was a very nice touch.
The designated smoking area is also particularly pleasant and beautifully arranged, making it a comfortable place to sit and relax.
Location-wise, the hotel worked very well for us. Many of George Town's main attractions can be reached within approximately a 5–10 minute taxi ride, depending on traffic. There is also a 7-Eleven conveniently located below the hotel, along with a Chinese restaurant and other nearby options.
Overall, Fifth Avenue Hotel Penang exceeded our expectations. The modern rooms, excellent food, convenient location and, above all, the genuinely friendly staff made our stay very enjoyable.
My father and I were honestly very positively surprised, and we would happily consider staying here again on another visit to Penang.

Fifth Ave is a fairly new hotel. The location is great, surrounded by some local cafes and plenty of food stalls.
The hotel room lay-out is also unique. There is a separated space of kitchen with dining table and chairs. The walk-in wardrobe, in my opinion, was an excellent design for the room. Good size bathroom with separate toilet area and large shower box. Overall, for our 5 nights stay, we felt the room gave us plenty space to relax. Also having our lugage stored away in the walk-in wardrobe was great!
The roof top pool and gym were well laid out. Both facing the harbour with nice city views. The drinks and food menu at the bar by the pool was limited.
The buffet breakfast offered plenty of choice of both asian and western styles. Unfortunately, most of the hot food was always cold.
