Not the best Xmas surprise

Stayed there with my family over the Xmas and New Year period in 2 rooms. There was full blown construction going on when we checked in, which was still ongoing when we checked out 12 nights later. Had we known about construction, we would never had booked this hotel. Its a nice boutique hotel and reception staff are fantastic. However little necessities like toilet paper was always never replaced. Embarrassingly we had to keep asking reception for it. Cleaning of the rooms was a hit and miss depending on who cleaned your room. Even the coffee mugs were left unclean on most days. The patio was never used because of the construction just a metre away from the fence of the patio. Needless to say, the view promised on the booking site was one of construction workers and big JCBs making their noisy path back and forth in full view from 7 am to 7 pm every night that we were there. When asked why this was not disclosed to Trip.com, they shrugged and said they were unaware of it. However, the construction workers parked and ate at this hotels restaurant. Go figure. The pool was a small paddling pool only suitable for toddlers. Apart from that, the location was accessible to the beach which is a 10 minute walk across the road in front and through a dirt track between 2 big hotels. A beautiful beach with nice white sand. Sea was lovely to swim in, we swam practically every day for a short while in the evenings while it was still hot. Lots of lovely restaurants, cafes and bars very close. I would say the hotel is on the better side, but it could have been good if management was a bit more pro-active and showed that they cared by doing something for the inconvenience we faced every day of our stay. They did nothing. Trip.com took it upon themselves to compensate us a little. So I would commend Trip.com for their caring attitude.

Perfectly happy to cancel on you last second

Booked this a few weeks in advance, got a notification on the morning of our stay stating that the booking was cancelled.
Despite repeated attempts to contact them, by both myself and the agent, no further communication was forthcoming (and no mention of a refund) so had to sort something else in a panic.
