Nice hotel with good breakfast with seaview. Clean and very nice staff.

I stayed here for seven nights. It is a very good hotel for the price. You are in the middle of the historic centre and within 10 minutes of the sea. The breakfast was good and the staff are very friendly; they can arrange anything you need. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Great location but not really luxury accommodation

I'm kind of over the riad concept at this point. Yes, they're historic old buildings and vaguely pretty, and you do get the authentic medina experience. But they're usually uncomfortable, noisy and often lacking basic amenities.
Ben Atar is another riad in the medina area of Essaouira, and yes, it's old and vaguely pretty, but yes, it's uncomfortable, noisy and lacking (some) basic amenities.
Well, colour me cynical, but sometimes a modern hotel is nice for a change. Maybe I've stayed in one too many riads recently. Ben Atar is certainly not the worst riad I've been in, but you'd think that towels would at least be standard (I had to schlepp down three flights of stairs to get them). Internet is technically available but in practice.you have to schlepp down three flights of stairs to reception for a working connection.
Missing bedside tables, leaky showers, impractical or missing furniture, idiosyncratic bedding setups and electrical wiring - these all come as standard in riads, in my experience. Yeah, I know: jaded traveller...
On the bright side, breakfast up on the rooftop was actually pretty good, in spite of the drizzle, and the riad's location in Essaouira's fasinating medina is excellent.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever

I cannot believe how bad our experience was at this hotel. They had just painted many of the floors with a very smelly paint. Our door was still tacky. Our room smelled unbearably. I spoke to our tour leader and told him it was unacceptable and that If I were paying for it on my own (and not as part of a tour) I would have demanded my money back and gone elsewhere. We suffered the smell that night and had bad headaches the next morning. To add insult to (almost) injury, when my wife opened the wardrobe to hang our jackets, it started to fall on her. Fortunately, I caught it.
We changed rooms the next day, and they started to paint right outside our door. Note that there were no outside windows to vent the paint smell in either room. This was a total lack of consideration for their clients and I would not recommend this hotel. They should have waited until the smell had dissipated before renting the rooms. Common sense.

Thank you for the good stay

I spent several vacation periods in essaouira this year because it is very hot in Marrakech, and for the first time I am staying in a beautiful Riad Pension like this one benatar.
Very nice clean quiet service and very warm and nice and friendly staff.
Spacious and well done room.
Breakfast weaned until 11.00 on a terrace overlooking the sea and medina.

Tired and unkempt but a great breakfast

Well-located but rather tired and unkempt. Beds and bedding comfortable. An excellent local breakfast on a rooftop with a view of the sea. Female receptionist very welcoming but the place cries out for proper management of what could be a lovely hotel.
