Five months

My review is posted elsewhere. I was at this lodge for five months. Wonderful rustic charm. Staff was like family. No traffic noise. It's not a Hilton or Holiday Inn, but a nice change of pace. Taxis are available. Shopping is a few minutes away. The lake is just down the road.

Smells like teen spirit

Mold is mold no matter how many toilet fresheners are used.
You may expect the insipid stuff on walls in a tropical climate but really if you own an accommodation business and don't consider that your PAYING guests are breathing the nasty spores while sleeping,then you are not in the right business. Customer care is what hospitality is based on. I was tempted to write a big sign and leave it for the cleaner. Bleach kills mold dead. Not mold kills guests dead.... But it would have been a waste of paper. The hot water tap was cold. So my husband got maintenance to take a look. They informed me -- there is hot water. My next shower was once again cold... No hot water, my husband assured me, he felt it himself hot water, coming from the shower. Of course there was hot water, silly me for looking at the big black letter H on the shower tap and expecting this is where the hot water will spout from. No that's the cold water tap, not the hot water tap. Oh how us westerners are so unimaginative.
I had 30 minutes to get showered, packed and have my breakfast because the woman at reception forgot my 7 am wake up call. She was very sorry she forgot. I don't believe the airline company would have refunded my missed flight on the basis of her apology. Lucky I am an intrepid traveller and always arrive at airports hours before I have to.
My last comment on this accommodation is beware.` I booked a standard double room with a/c wifi. Upon arrival they took me to my room which was twin single beds right down the back of the compound. You have to take a #4 bus to get to the room. Plus the Niagara Falls of stairs which was not suitable for a couple in their late 50's with 4 suitcases and one skinny porter. So we declined this incorrect room allocation. Instead for a few more USA DOLLARS we were shown a standard double room with a/c and wifi. Ask me how this is different to what I booked online I can't say. But the hotel said it was. In a moment of frustration as I was about to argue the point I remembered the online booking confirmation was in my iPad which has a very flat battery.
The location is away from everything if you want cheap then keep looking as the price online is not the reality. Unless there was a massive miscommunication with my booking and this kind of error Never happens to other people....
The recommendation for management... Invest in bleach and give the woman at reception an alarm clock.

Family Atmosphere

I lived here for five months, March-July. It's a charming place with staff that go out if their way to be helpful. Breakfast is included. Mary will accommodate you as best she can with your breakfast preferences. I often order the fried vermicelli for dinner which the staff will bring to your room. The lodge is away from traffic and quiet with lots of greenery about. It's not a touristy place. You can't walk out the door to go shopping. But taxis are readily available to take you wherever you want to go. The front desk will help you with this. There is rudimentary laundry service. No dry cleaning. The air conditioning is wonderful. There are normal complimentary items like coffee, tea, bottled water, shampoo, soap, toothbrush. The lodge is past its glory days, but it's still got lots off charm to offer. The staff is a large part of that charm.
