Lodge with charm in the middle of nature

The lodge is beautifully situated in the middle of nature. The tents themselves are already pretty run down, broken mosquito net, doors that can hardly be closed. But the room was clean. But somehow that's exactly what made the lodge so charming. The bathroom is completely outdoors, that was quaint. Although I imagine it difficult in the rain. The staff was very motivated and the food was very delicious. We had great trips from here with our guide Ueera to the rock paintings and the desert elephants.

Discrimination Against Locals

I visited Khowarib Lodge and was deeply disappointed to experience blatant discrimination. As a Namibian local, I was refused service while foreign tourists were welcomed without hesitation. This kind of treatment is unacceptable anywhere, but especially in a country that prides itself on hospitality and unity.
Khowarib Lodge markets itself as a gateway to Kaokoland and a celebration of local culture yet it excludes the very people who live here. If you’re considering staying here, ask yourself: do you support businesses that deny service based on nationality?
We deserve better. Locals deserve respect. And Khowarib Lodge needs to be held accountable

Good Morning . Many thanks for your comment. "Right of Admission Reserved". is a legal disclaimer allowing business owners (shops, lodges, Bars) to refuse entry or remove individuals at their discretion to ensure safety , order , or to enforce policies like dress codes etc. While it gives monument While it gives management control , this right cannot violate anti-discrimination laws. But I do believe you did enjoy your pizzas and drinks , at the Khowarib Lodge campsite ..................Best Regards

Rustic but comfortable

Everything is nice in this lodge
Well-equipped tents with sanitary facilities outside for a shower under the stars although in winter the temperature drops quickly at night, unique defect of the place
Friendly staff and very good food
The tours proposed with Smiley the guide are really exceptional in sublime landscapes, the encounter with desert elephants was magical

One night stage between Twyfelfontein and Opuwo is more than enough

Rustic lodge that must be nice in the dry season located in the beginning of the Khowarib Gorge (toilet, shower and open-air sink ...)But that was for me the worst night of our 19 days. The rigid tents on stilts are very and / or too close to the river bed in times of rainstorms floods ... An impression that at any moment we would be swept away! A crackling sound heard at night ..... Dinner and breakfast not great.

Good morning, Sylvie. many thanks for the review. I can only say that in x17 years here at the Khowarib lodge, I haven't seen the Hoanib River so high and strong . We can only say thanks you to the Lord above for the wonderful rain we had this season. i totally understand that you were nervous that night, so were we....................

The highlight of our Namibia tour

The unique location also impressed us, but even more so the super friendly staff. One evening we were the only guests at dinner, but we got an almost star-worthy 3-course meal.
On the first evening we were surprised how lovingly you can fold towels into elephants. Then we could watch a herd of baboons from our small terrace on the slope of the river.
We were there for 3 days and conducted a fantastic safari on desert elephants and desert lions with the guide Ueera. We came not only to 10 m to a resting lion for photos as well as to a small elephant herd with 2 babies, giraffes, antelopes etc. but also to breakfast stop and lunch with camping table and tablecloth (!) hosted. We were spoiled all around, so to speak. Really our highlight.
