The view from the rooms and specially from the terrace is amazing. Great spot for a glass of wine or a local beer. If you are not a German Speaker don’t worry, the staff speaks several lenguages. Nice breakfast buffette. The location it’s just a small walk to town’s center. And the lake can easily be reached by taxi or public transport .

The place was ok. Cute area and nice view. The pool was nice. They had the worst breakfast I have ever had in a hotel. We left the next day.

Celebrated an anniversary and birthday while staying at the Waxenstein. An anniversary card and chocolates in our room and a special birthday breakfast table with champagne for my wife’s birthday. All unexpected but greatly appreciated. No doubt our future trip to Grainau will include a stay at the Waxenstein.

Great location overlooking the Zugspitze

The hotel has a great location. We had a small room overlooking the Zugspitze. The bathroom is quite small and the bathtub for showering impractical. The water splashed on the floor. Conditioner and body lotion are not available. There is an excellent breakfast buffet that leaves nothing to be desired. The service staff was very friendly. The wellness area is manageable, unfortunately there are no additional towels for the sauna. You have to make do with the bath towel that is ready in the wardrobe. In the hotel folder a hot tub with 37 degrees was advertised, unfortunately we did not find it. The receptionist seemed a bit overwhelmed at check-in. Tourist tax was charged to us a guest card we never received. Overall, the hotel looks a bit old and at second glance not very well maintained. The price-performance ratio is not in our opinion a 4-S star hotel.

Charming stay in a fantastic setting!

We spent a week in Grainau in this hotel. The setting is superb, charming village with old chalets, absolutely fantastic views from all sides! I do not understand the negative comments, or we have fallen particularly well. All the staff is very friendly and kind, very helpful, whether at the reception, breakfast, dinner, maids. Beautiful wooden hotel, cozy atmosphere, nice living room and terrace, very nice dining room where the tables are well separated so we have our own corner, intimate, it is quiet, it is very nice. Beautiful Waxenstein views from the dining room and bedrooms to the south. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a balcony with views, superb. Large very comfortable room with seating area, very good bedding, very large bed, very soft and pleasant sheets. Very large bathroom with two sinks, a shower and a bathtub, with daylight which is convenient. Entrance with wardrobe, fridge, coffee machine, small bench to be able to remove his mountain shoes without dirtying the room. Carpeted room, which I personally like very much in winter because it is warmer and cozy. Wooden decoration, chalet atmosphere. If I have a point to make, it's that there's a closet but no shelves to put her things on, except a small dresser in the bedroom.
The breakfast is superb: very varied and hearty, at will: pastries, various rolls, homemade yogurts, jams, cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, fruit salad, smoked salmon, boiled eggs. Scrambled eggs and omelets on request included in the price. Tea, coffee, chocolate, various juices. It can be taken until 11 am which is very pleasant on holiday and allows to take it without being stressed.
We were half board in the evening: imposed menu with soup, main course and dessert. It was very good and well presented but we regretted eating French almost all the time (duck breast, bouillabaisse, cock au vin...); we would have preferred to taste Bavarian specialties and there was not once. No salads, vegetables or fruit in the evening either, desserts always with mascarpone are a bit heavy. Drinks are extra; not much choice in wines by the glass.

There is also a snack offered at around 4 pm with tea, coffee and a slice of cake.
Small pool in the basement and sauna. Pleasant between civilized adults, terrible if there are children...
The bus is in the central square of the village 3 minutes walk (but there is only one per hour to Garmisch or Eibsee).
Dozens and dozens of walks / hikes to do, each more beautiful than the last. You should definitely go up to the Zugspitze and see the Partnachklamm Gorge.
In summary, superb stay, beautiful place, hotel with very good value for money half board. I find it a place for couples wanting peace and privacy, not a place for families with children.
