Wonderful Hotel and Restaurant under New Ownership

I was in Grebenstein on business and spent two wonderful days at the Deutsche Eiche. The hotel is nicely decorated and rooms have a small desk to finish up work in the evening (which I had to do). Don’t skip out on the German restaurant in the hotel. They try to accommodate everybody but it is VERY popular so you might want to get a reservation. The Deutsche Eiche, located right in the center of town is a 100% recommendation.

Unfortunately not again

I was a guest at the restaurant as part of a Christmas party. The food was pre-ordered for about 50 guests. There were three dishes to choose from: Goose breast, Viennese schnitzel and, as a vegetarian dish, eggplant balls with rice. I chose the vegetarian dish in advance. The beverage service was a bit tough at first and the food was more than 1.5 hours in coming. First, the vegetarian dishes were served. My eggplant rolls consisted of two small eggplant meatballs and no more than a handful of rice with tomato sugo. Taste good, but the size of an appetizer portion. When I had already finished eating, my colleagues served the goose and schnitzel. Not only the service staff but also the kitchen seemed overwhelmed. When I noticed to the service person that I would like to still have follow-up service due to the small portion, she brought me the leftover portion of a colleague who had not shown up, which is why she also arrived cold at my place. When I went to settle my score at the counter, I honestly listed two portions of the eggplant rolls alongside a bottle of water and a red wine. The service employee then collected two full portions of 15,00 Euro plus drinks to my horror. When I asked twice if he was serious about collecting two portions, he replied that he could do nothing, whereupon I settled the invoice amount with a card. However, what I can no longer do is visit this restaurant let alone recommend it to anyone. The price for a portion over 15,00 Euro is completely excessive, but then to collect two portions, one of which could not have been sold anyway, since it had already left the kitchen, I think cheeky.

Dinner

There were two of us for dinner. Were warmly welcomed. As a small greeting from the kitchen we had fresh farmer's bread. And three kinds of butter.
Very delicious . Main course of veal schnitzel with schmand .
The salad mega alone.
We look forward to coming back .

Disappointing...

So this was a hotel we stayed at just because it was halfway between destinations and we didn't want to drive that far in one day. Made reservations a year out and everything was fine until we get there and the place looks closed. Turns out it is their quiet day. Never once did I get any notice for the eleven months before the trip that I was arriving on their quiet day. Had no idea what the code was to the lock-box. Fortunately, one of the doors was open and so I could get online and see my emails and there, sent that very morning at 1130, was the one and only time they told me that it was their quiet day and here is the code. No decent restaurants around. I was looking forward to eating at their restaurant but it was closed. Had I known that it was their quiet day I booked on, I would have changed to another place which is probably why they didn't tell me until it was too late. This place sits in the middle of a small town and is a good distance from the Autobahn. Breakfast was adequate but that's about it. Would not stay here again.

Restaurant avec décor typique

Service agréable et souriant prêt à rendre service. Escalope viennoise très bonne. Bonnes portions. Produits locaux. Ferme tôt. Samedi réservation obligatoire. Menus uniquement en allemand . La salle est un peu sombre liée à la décoration.
