Meh..
The place was adequate. For the price you get what you get. However, i was there with some school mates to finish my MBA so luckily there were some good friends to make the experience OK. Breakfast was OK as long as you get there early, so the stock of food was a lot. When we were there there were a lot of other students so we had to share the common space. But other then that, you get what you get for the price. Quite distant from the station, so its good to get a taxi since its quite up the hill.

Bins are almost as tall as Jena tower
So I walked into the hostel after a 12 hour trip to be kindly greeted by nobody in the reception area.
We then had to find the keys to the room and was told it was 'not possible' to stay in the room.
We were told that each room would have its own bathroom, but unfortunately we have a share a community shower (which isn't very nice), the community toilets are blocked and smell of human faeces, there are also bits of toilet paper on the floor with faeces on it.
On the first night I decided I wanted some water after the long 12 hour plus journey, as I hadn't had a drink since the airport. There was a small vending machine with only 2 bottles of water in it. I didn't have and Euros at this point so I had to find another guest who had change.
Furthermore, there are no shops near by but even if there was they would have been closed at this time and the nearest McDonald's is over a mile away.
The trek to get to the hostel is horrendous, it's a small long street that seems to just go on and on and on. The bus stop is at the bottom of the street but you'll have to walk for about 15 minutes to get up the hill to the hostel, it's probably easier and quicker to walk to Leipzig.
Finally, the cleaners don't clean. I have seen cleaners in the corridors a few times but never in my room.
The bedsheets are dirty and haven't been changed in over a weeks and a half and we have had the same towels are whole stay. I really would like new bedding and a clean pillow case but they is not possible here.
The bin in our room is overflowing and is almost as tall as Jena tower, it's actually disgusting as this is the case with most rooms, the rubbish no longer fits in the bins and cleaners don't seem to clean.
The towels we have to shower are hand towels for some reason, and I've had to use the same one for a while which is worrying.
Overall, save yourself the hassle and pitch a tent outside on the grass area, might also be convenient to bring a towel and a wheelie bin.m

Absolutely rubbish
Rubbish hotel, the food is disgusting, the place is horrid. We were promised a room with showers etc, nobody ended up having a shower in their room. The staff are unfriendly. And the WiFi is absolutely crap in our room. Couboards are crap, floors in our room is ripped up and I've tripped several times over the floor, beds are horrible, snack machine is never working,the place needs to be demolished basically it is absolutely crap and I've spent 2 weeks there. Worst experience of my life .

Adequate
The main positive here is the price - it will be the cheapest private room you'll find anywhere near the city, and the location, whilst not central, is still good. There are regular buses that reach the city in ten minutes, but the hostel is another ten minutes walk up a steep hill from the bus stop, so depending on your luggage a taxi might be better.
Reception is not 24 hours and only German EC cards are accepted, otherwise it is cash only.
The rooms are large but basic, with a table, wardrobe, reading light and plug sockets. They do not seem to have been redecorated for several decades and paint is peeling off of the walls. By contrast the communal washrooms are clean and in order with hot, powerful showers. On the fourth floor it was very quiet, and the common room was empty, so I could use it as a reading room and then sleep in peace, although the mattress was very hard. Bed linen is included but no towels.
Wifi is free but slow and dropped out frequently on the fourth floor.

Nice little place
I stayed here for two weeks back in November 2013. It's a nice little place to stay in, bit of a walk to the nearest bus station, but I enjoyed the walk, it's in a peaceful area and I got pretty fit from all the walking haha, the room was pretty basic but also nice
