Clean, quiet and comfortable place near the train station at a great price

I had a two-night stay at this fine little place. It's located in an upper-end, quiet residential neighborhood that is just 10 minutes or less on foot from the Mainz Hbf train station, a walk that's flat and easy near the station and takes you uphill for a couple of blocks as you approach the hotel. The REAR station exit allows for the most direct walk.
My single room (€62/night w/o breakfast) was surprisingly roomy for a single in Germany (where singles are often large closets.) Private bath, a wardrobe, a small table + chair, a night stand, TV, a small dresser, and a balcony with a small table + chair with a treed view were included. The balcony-side wall was full of windows that brought the outdoors in. Everything was spotless and functional. No coffee-maker :( but I knew that going in and had chosen to just get breakfast at the station (where Yorma's, McD's, etc. open quite early.) Breakfast is available for €15; the breakfast area looked comfortable and tidy, and online reviews are good. I slept like a baby at this place. No surprise - the Klinik does sleep-studies here. The reception has limited hours. The two staff members I had contact with were really friendly and helpful. Adjacent to the hotel is a large park-like are with walking trails. I never expected to find a place so quiet, peaceful and close to the main train station in Mainz, which is packed with hotels but by its very nature is a non-stop busy, noisy environment. My sole complaint about the Am Roemerwall is the spiral staircase that led to my room and the awkward angled-step that confronts anyone wanting to go up from the staircase entrance. I must have tripped over that thing 3 times. Use the elevator.

Not worth the money - terrible service/amenities

One of the worst places I have ever stayed.
Staff (students?) very unfriendly and not helpful.
They sell you a parking spot on the premises although there is no space available. Parking on the street only for residents. No other solution offered.
Breakfast too pricey.
WiFi did not work.
TV (ZDF) did not work (hello?!? It’s Euro2024!).
Hot water pipe not covered - burnt myself.
Got the smallest room (approx. 6 sqm) which was run down and filthy, especially the bathroom.
No restaurants in the vicinity.

A quiet hotel, fairly central

This old house has at times been a clinic and still houses a small doctors' practice. Some of the stairwells and corridors still look a bit clinical. Our room and bed was comfortable and we had a small balcony. The shower room was small but perfectly adequate. The hotel is on a small side road so relatively quiet. Breakfast was excellent. We had advised one of us needed gluten free, and the gf rolls were brought out sraright away without having to remind them.

an ok stay

pros: The room is clean with decent size.
cons: The hotel is on a hill. It is not close to anything. I need to go downhill to the bus station and climb uphill to go back to the hotel. The breakfast is not worth 10 EU. No free internet.

Good middle term stay

This hotel was my first choice due to the fact that it is so near to the Uniklinik. I was visiting relatives who had a surgery and the location is just perfect. It is just 5 mins away from the Hospital, in a very quite neighborhood with lots of parking possibilities. I would say it is quite near to the city, but I am strong walker. The room was good and the service excellent and very helpful, very flexible while I was in trouble not knowing when I will check out finally, they really took some trouble off my shoulders while I was really having more important things to care about.
The only thing that I didn't like was the internet connection (Telekom Wi-fi) and the Customers-PC (old and slow). But I think this is a germany-wide phenomenon regarding the hotels. I understand that Germany is an advanced country but that is not an excuse to expect everybody to have mobile-internet, especially as a tourist. And when it says "internet available" I understand "you can do your business with the connection"
