A true gem in a wonderful area of Rotterdam
A true gem in a wonderful area of Rotterdam. This hotel is the definition of a great boutique hotel. The location was great for seeing the city of Rotterdam and the room accommodation was beautifully designed and comfortable. The hotel is part of a cafe on the ground floor that offers lite bites and coffee and a beautiful selection of well curated decor.
Room: I knew I needed a calm and relaxing space to unwind after two weeks of traveling through Belgium and the Netherlands, so I chose the Monumental room (#14). It was the perfect retreat. The in-room bathtub was ideal for finding the tranquility I was seeking, and the room's overall design was beautiful, with many of the original architectural details meticulously restored. Not only was the room spacious by European standards, but the high ceilings made it feel even more expansive. The layout was well-thought-out, featuring a separate water closet and a private yet open shower and sink area within the bedroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable with soft, luxurious bedding, and the room was equipped with good Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets for charging devices.
Staff: All my interactions with staff were wonderful. Check-in was smooth, and the staff member explained the key system, the hours when staff are on-site, and how to contact someone after hours. The hotel operates somewhere between a B&B and a small boutique hotel, so there is no full-time reception desk, and late-evening calls for small requests are not possible. However, understanding this, I made sure to ask for extra towels or glasses before they closed, and they were promptly brought to my room. Housekeeping was excellent and very detail-oriented.
Tips/Suggestions: My biggest suggestion would be to purchase some luggage racks. I understand the desire for minimalist decor, but if you don't plan to fully unpack into the small closet, you'll need to access your items from your bag on the floor. The wonderful woman who checked me in managed to have a bench brought to my room on the second day, which was perfect. However, owning a few luggage racks seems like a no-brainer for a hotel. Please note (as mentioned on the website) that there is no elevator, and the stairs are steep and narrow by most standards due to the building's age. This may make transporting a large suitcase up and down a bit challenging. However, the staff were more than happy to assist if needed.

Disillusionment
We had been looking forward to staying at Hotel Ame. We regularly stay in hotels, but unfortunately this one is not one of the best for us. The feeling afterwards is mainly: disillusionment.
Already in March we had booked our room. Because I had read several reviews about noise pollution at the front of the hotel, I contacted the reception by telephone beforehand. I was assured we would not be staying in front. On arrival, however, it turned out that we had been given room 24 at the front.
The staff member at the reception understood our disappointment and luckily solved this immediately by giving us a beautiful, very spacious room at the rear. A great room with a large bed and great comfort. Unfortunately, this turned out to be only possible for one night.
Here we slept wonderfully!
For the second night we had to move to room 24 at the front. Where the first night was heavenly, the second night was an outright hell. I've rarely slept so badly in a hotel. The bed we found very uncomfortable and because it is against the wall, you have to climb over each other during a toilet visit at night. In addition, there is a wooden edge to the bed that looks nice, but which we have bumped ourselves several times. And the sound wasn't doable. We used the earplugs but that didn't help either.
The bathroom is very small; you can hardly turn around. For the price you pay we really expected more.
The location of the hotel is absolutely a plus and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nevertheless, in hindsight, we would advise paying extra for a larger room at the rear or considering another hotel. Unfortunately, no repeat for us.

Generation gap
At Hotel Ame settled for lunch. Has a good name for her Japanese tea like Hojicha and Macha. These are prepared with love and served by friendly staff. The coffee can be there too, by the way. Hot and strong is the Long Black. The toast with scrambled eggs is highly recommended in terms of taste. For a tenner, you'll still be hungry. Or I don't see it right. I noticed that Japanese tea is mainly a woman thing. As the only man and only coffee drinker, I may expect larger portions. The entourage is minimalist yet atmospheric. Not quite my thing but that will be the generation gap with the other guests. The quality of Ame is not in question... it must be your thing for the full experience.

Stylish but not clean
Rooms in front very noisy. Many nightlife crowds walk in and out to the metro stop. People on the street can be heard verbatim.
Mold on the walls and floor in the bathroom. Brown filth behind the toilet.
Magazines are in the lobby/breakfast table are almost gone. There should be new, fresh ones.
Dark and unsociable in the lobby/breakfast room when not sitting by a window.
Beautiful and stylishly furnished into a compact hotel room.
Walking distance to the major museums.
Nice to drink coffee, even if you are not staying there.
Expensive and luxurious bathroom products.

And don't panic if you run out of spray, you can order it through the hotel and they'll send it to you.
