BUNK is a friendly, colorul gem of a hotel

BUNK was gorgeous. The location was super convenient to the train station and the Old town. Service and staff were young, fun, friendly, and knowledgeable. Atmosphere was so cute that I took a ton of photos just of the hotel and restaurant itself. It was hot (summer of 2026) but they brought us a fan. The restaurant was delicious and affordable. The opposite of a stuffy or uptight place to eat or sleep. Charming, hip, affordable, delightful. Thanks!

It's good! Just consider that...

LOCATION
Few mins walk from the station. Perfect. The place used to be a church and has this cool deconsecrated atmosphere. The restaurant is fancy and there's also a friendly cat around.
STAFF
Very kind. I dealt with young and female staffers – an Italian and a Dutch. Both ensured a smooth check in and check out. The personnel I met while crossing the restaurant were very nice as well.
THE PODS
There's just room for a comfortable mattress and pillow, a clean duvet. Plug and USB available, and a little wall pocket organiser. Yes, you can sit on the mattress and your head won't touch the ceiling. A plus: you can regulate the colour of the light within the pod (see photos).
Underneath the pods, there are boxes (which you lock with your magnetic key) for your cabin-size luggage, which was very handy.
The room toilets are large, with many showers and sinks, and soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers. All clean and very good.
BREAKFAST
Possible to book and have at the restaurant, but I haven't checked it.
FACILITIES
Big (paid) lockers to leave your suitcase while visiting around.
I had to pick the 24hs one (it's either 3h, 6h or 24h), and paid € 7.
PRICE
€ 52 in total, including the city tax.
...BUT
The pods have wooden walls, but only a curtain to the outside, which means that even if no big noises from the street, you will listen to everything next to you. The night I stayed there, there were three guys talking rather loudly a few metres from me, and it wasn't great to fall asleep. Apparently the chat was good since they were laughing quite a lot. I told them politely, they haven't stopped. I called the reception, I was told that somebody would come. Not sure that happened. I ended up falling asleep way later than expected. I'm sure I was just unlucky and this is not something that usually happens. Just bear in mind that it could.
CONCLUSION
Considering the feasible risk, all in all it's a yes.

The perfect little budget hotel. I booked one of the single rooms for a stop over in Utrecht and it was great value. Steps away from central station and the historic district.

Bunk Utrecht was a great stay. It’s close enough to Centraal to walk with luggage, and the restored‑church setting gives the lobby and restaurant a really unique atmosphere with a solid crowd. The box‑bed setup feels private and well designed, and the bathrooms were consistently clean and well maintained.

Compact, clean, and convenient

Bunk Hotel was a wonderful place to use as a base to explore Utrecht as well as other towns/cities. Only a 5 minute walk to the train station (through the mall) and a short distance to other sites in the city. With it being an "open concept" hotel, of course there was noise from the restaurant downstairs, especially when there was a band playing. But, by 10:00, things quieted down so the noise wasn't a problem at all. The room itself is very compact but extremely clean; more compact than I was expecting. I was traveling solo so it was plenty of room for me. If one other person had been with me, it would have been a tight squeeze. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had good pressure and was hot. The shower set-up is a bit awkward; I wasn't sure hot to put the floor towel down so I could step on it when I got out, but I quickly realized that the shower door (which doubles as a bathroom door) is not interrupted by the floor towel. The hooks for the the hairdryer as well as the towel rack were very high; if I were a short person, I would have needed a stool to reach them. The sink was very small; I had trouble washing my face at night without dumping water on the floor. The cubbies next to the sink is a great idea, but a couple of hooks at the sink would have been handy. The motion sensor light under the bed is very convenient; there's no need to turn on a light in the middle of the night. However, it did seem to randomly go off every now and then.
The self-check in/out is very easy, but be advised that if you arrive prior to 3:00 pm, you will not be able to use the self-check in. The staff members who helped me were so very kind. I arrived several hours early so I was directed to some lockers to store my bags. The lockers are in a secure spot, and you set the code yourself. I set my watch so I would know when to make sure I was back; however, I was a few minutes late since the young man at the desk let me know there was a room ready and I could check in. No problem, the locker just let me know there was an additional charge. When I mentioned that one of the draws for me choosing that hotel was that it used to be a church, he pointed out the organ, as well as the boards on the wall which were pews from the church.
I felt very safe staying in one of the rooms. If I were to stay here again, I would probably get the top-tier room, especially if someone was with me.
