Quiet hotel with a stunning view!
Very good stay at the Hotel Santana. We loved the stunning view of the Rio Ave and the Mosteiro de Santa Clara from several places in the hotel (breakfast, room, restaurant, pool and even the elevator!). The pool is large and open until midnight, the hot tub is very hot and the wellness areas are satisfactory. The breakfast buffet is very complete. The restaurant offers a buffet option at a good price with typical dishes. We did not find the hotel "aging" as some comments indicate (there is carpet indeed, but the room is spacious, in good condition, and above all, the view and the staff make for an excellent stay). The price is quite reasonable given the quality of the various services. The hotel is located on high ground, in a quiet area relative to the town of Vila do Conde, but you can reach it in 15 minutes on foot.

Shameful
We book a suite, room 1209.
Check-in is possible from 15. We arrived at 18:00, they didn't know what was going to be "our room." We had to wait for the reception to call the colleague to "know if the room was ready." We already have a weak impression. We reached the rooms, we took a very smelly "chapada", which I later realized was from the amount of ambienters that are scattered throughout the room and then began the disenchantment. Clear Alcatifa, all stained, nodos that are noticeably already very old. Air conditioning that does not work (in full August, it turns out to be very pleasant!) There is a mini bar, but empty, the water available in the room, obviously, warm.
We whispered the restaurant's letter, we gave up, it looked like the menu of a day's dish restaurant.
We went to the bar. The offer is so ridiculous the lack of options. If you want anything to "pick" you can eat bread with butter and olives. Arrive at 7 pm the employee asks to charge because he had to close the bar to go to serve the restaurant. Not to mention the dirty glass, completely worn floor, raised wooden ripes, etc...
During the night, any residual noise from a working machine. All holy night.
We arrived at breakfast, at 9am the eggs were completely cold (the bases that served to keep warm were erased), without taste. Warning to turn off the toaster as soon as you finish using it (i.e., if you want toasted bread, you have to wait for the toaster to heat up, as it is resistance ones). The offer is very weak. Employees are polite, but few.
We didn't even get the right to the spa because we just wanted to get out of it. I don't know how it's possible at Booking to have so many subscription reviews. The photos of the website, social networks, etc... are completely misleading advertising. Oh, and elevator, forget.
In short: we do not recommend or will return.
This hotel is not a 4 star neither here nor anywhere.

Very Unclean
Biggest complain I have is the uncleanness of the hotel. The sheets have hair from the previous visitor, and bedsheets are not cleaned at all, an easily opening thin cover is put, which all the previous room owners have shared.
The rooms smell like mold. Atmosphere is not bad but not amazing either, the hotel is very old. Location is quite far from central porto.

Bad experience
The worst hotel I've ever seen. A bad room, ( 1205) warm without air conditioning, just a tiny fan with 30 cm....which only expelled hot air....walls with dropping pieces of ink, rotten windows, old furniture, bed and awful mattress. I refused to stay in this room. I complained at the reception. They gave me the option of changing room. However the rooms were all similar. How is it possible to be a 4-star hotel....not a pension has these conditions of dormitory.

Very good stay!
The hotel is perfectly adapted. Very well located with all the necessary services.
Only flaw, you can see that it is no longer very young (like with the carpet in the rooms)
