Delightful

Only a small place, but my favourite of all the hotels that we stayed at in our tour of Austria. The room was bright, clean, comfortable and large with copious storage space. A lovely bonus was the balcony overlooking a stream where, even in early April, we were able to sit out in the sun amongst snow-topped mountains.
It may be in a quiet sidestreet, but it is ideally placed for the railway station, the ski slopes and the apres-ski bars, although it is a steep walk into the village and back (tip: you can save a bit of leg-work by using the lift in the Wasserfall multi-storey car-park).
Breakfast was a typical middle European continental affair taken in a nice bright well-decorated room. The owner, Sonja, was as delightful as her B&B and very helpful.

Clean and cozy place

Nice cozy place. Clean rooms, great food and very nice hosts! The location is great, as it is located near the ski lift. It has a really nice vibe as everything looks traditional. Also, it was quiet so our sleep was great. Overall, we recommend it and hope you have a good time!

“Bait and switch “

We made a reservation for 2 rooms in July through Booking.com to stay at this Pension on August 7, 2018. We are two couples traveling by bicycles. This hotel is at the top of a big hill and we arrived just in the nick of time at 2:30 pm as it was starting to rain. The proprietor told us that she had canceled the reservation because she was not sure if we still wanted the reservation. It is unclear to us why she did this because the cancellation policy on the reservation stipulates that they will charge you 50% of the cost of the reservation if you cancel it. Moreover, if you do not show up for the reservation the charge is 100% of the cost of the reservation. Needless to say, we were left stranded in a rain storm at the top of the hill on our bicycles with no place to stay. We travel a lot and use Booking.com frequently. Booking.com was able to help us find another place to stay close by for the same price. Pension Steinbacher and the proprietor are a huge disappointment.

Bad Gastein is a real pearl in the world and Pension Steinbacher (Sonja) is a best host ever :)

Sonja is a real perfect, lovely host.
We spent a week in Austria (in four city), but this accomodation was the best!
Sonja was the dearest host in Austria, our room was the most comfortable, the view was wonderful. Every morning I see the snowy mountain peak (in summer!!!) and a nice brook ran through our room.
The breakfast was abundant, the bed is comfortable, the thermal spa is very close.

Great for ski holidays

Specious room with balcony & small fridge. Clean and cleaned every day. Excellent breakfast, location and Sonja is a nice host. All services and ski lift close by. Even though Bad Gastein village is steep this is not in the old village which is convienient. For families, couples & friends.
