Dinner on the main square

Had a lovely dinner overlooking the town square from the terrace of the restaurant. The service was friendly and the food lovely. We started with beef tartare which was delicious and very generous. Our main dishes were fish and a plate of home made Austrian pasta with a selection of fillings ranging from meat, potato and vegetables. Each was different and very nice. For dessert we had traditional apple strudel and more traditional pasta 'Kletzen nudel' but this time filled with dried pears, spices and Topfen (Austrian style ricotta). This was my favourite dish. The hotel restaurant has had a facelift in the last year which has given it a modern and fresh look. I can't speak for the rooms as we were only there for dinner but I believe it's also a lovely hotel.

Very Nice Hotel & Restaurant

Stayed there one night as part of a Carinthian car tour. Very comfortable accommodation. Room was spacious and well furnished. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and well served by the young guy who assisted my wife with her vegetarian requirements in excellent English.
Great position at the top of the medieval square.
No problems recommending this for accommodation or dining.

Great restaurant

We stopped here to have lunch on its veranda and the food was absolutely delicious. We had their suggested 3 course menu for 17 euros that included a salad, a main dish and a dessert. The summer menu included a nice choice of either a grilled fish or chanterelle raviolis. The dessert was a delicious tiramisu nicely presented in a jar served with fresh strawberries.
There are certificates showing that the restaurant was selected by Falstaff for serving excellent food in 2014.

Lovely Hotel

We stayed here for 2 nights on way back to Vienna . We were very comfortable . Interesting little town ,plenty to see within walking distance .Really good breakfast .Lovely food .
Yes would go back - enjoyed our stay very much .

Lovely hotel on the square a lovely medieval town

This hotel was a great find. Very comfortable room in a traditional hotel with a nice atmosphere. The owners were very friendly. The 4 course evening meal was delicious and only cost 14.90 Euros! Breakfast was also very good. Friesach itself is a lovely little walled medieval town and the surrounding towns, villages and castles are all charming. The first thing you have to do is climb up the Petersberg for a lovely view.
