Even the way up is a letting go – of everyday life, of the pace of the valleys. Once at the top, the view opens: Expanse, tranquility, a panorama that lets you breathe. Whoever stops here feels: It’s not just the view that touches, but a spirit of devotion that runs through everything – from the reception to the last bite.
Hans-Peter Kohlmaier and Martin Possegger, the hosts, are not restaurateurs in the conventional sense. They are narrators with ingredients, choreographers of taste. With wit and warmth, they create an atmosphere in which originality and sophistication are not mutually exclusive, but inspire each other.
What happens in the kitchen is as down-to-earth as it is surprising. The “Karlbauer Schnitzel” – a classic, rethought. Fish dishes that do not claim freshness, but breathe. Pasta that tells of Carinthia, Italy and the Far East without ever being arbitrary. And in between: Ice cream, desserts, small temptations – handmade, heartwarming. Birgit, who serves with trained gaze and quiet attention, completes the experience with attitude and heart.
What makes this kitchen special is not only the quality of the products or the skill on the stove. It is the palpable: the attention to detail, the confidence in simplicity, the knowledge of the power of the real thing. Here nature does not just live outside the door – it continues to work in the plate.
The “Karlbauer” is not a place for fast consumption. It is a place for those who want to take their time – for the taste, for a good conversation, for the view into the distance. Feel good and come back
The plan was to get off the highway and drive on quickly after dinner.
We are now so impressed with the farm.
We plan to come back and spend a few days here.
The food was really good and of very good quality.
The staff were very friendly.
Although we were only there for dinner, we were immediately captivated by the family atmosphere there.
A place to feel good and come back.
If our plans had allowed it, we would have loved to stay there for a few days.
