Quiet base in Vienna with nice service and top breakfast

Our stay at Ibis Wien City was very good, and we stayed with a positive overall impression after four nights in Vienna from Monday to Friday. Although we arrived a little late in the evening, check-in was handled smoothly and efficiently, giving a good start to the stay.
We stayed in a room on the fourth floor (408) facing the backyard, and this turned out to be a very good choice. Despite being located in an area with a lot of traffic noise, the room was quiet and quiet, which contributed to good nights of sleep throughout the stay. The room itself was clean, neat and functionally furnished. The standard can be described as “basic”, but everything we needed was in place, and the cleanliness kept a high level.
One of the biggest positive surprises was the breakfast. It surpassed our expectations with a good margin, both in terms of selection and quality. Here there was something for everyone and it was a very nice start to every day. The staff also deserves extra praise – they were always welcoming, friendly and helpful, which really contributed to a great hotel experience.
The location is also worth highlighting as a big plus. The hotel is conveniently located between Karlsplatz and Schloss Schönbrunn, with only two stops in each direction from Margaretengürtel Station, which is just a five-minute walk away, making it easy to get around the city. This provides a good balance between staying a little outside the hottest city centre, while having easy access to the main sights.
There are several cheaper restaurants in the surrounding area compared to the city centre, which is a big plus for budget travelers. At the same time, we unfortunately experienced that the level of service at some dining venues could vary, with some waiters appearing to be inadequate and occasionally ongoing when it came to tips. This slightly reduces the overall experience of Vienna as a destination, but is not something that can be attributed to the hotel in itself.
When it comes to improvement points, these are relatively small, but worth mentioning. We missed some simple amenities in the room, such as hooks for outer clothes at the entrance, electric kettle and a small fridge. These are details that could make the stay even more comfortable. Great plus must be mentioned: water carapace in the room and the tap water in Vienna is excellent.
It is also convenient that there are grocery stores nearby – both Spar and Billa are located in each direction from the hotel, making it easy to shop whatever you need. However, it is worth noting that these shut down relatively early, around noon. 20, so it may be advisable to plan a little ahead.
Overall we had a very nice stay and the hotel delivers well on the most important: cleanliness, comfort, good breakfast and nice service. With its convenient location and quiet surroundings, this is a place we can definitely recommend to others who want a pleasant and uncomplicated stay in Vienna.

Five nights at ibis Wien City

ibis Wien City is just in the middle between two metro stations (Margaretengurtel and Pilgramgasse, both on line U4), and either station can be reached with a five minutes walk. I was at ibis Wien City for five nights, and I would classify different aspects as:
- Positive: good room and good bathroom, good breakfast
- Neutral: staff were OK
- Negative: air conditioning was preset at 25°C and could not be changed: it was uncomfortable in the room with such a high temperature. Insulation from outside noise was poor: traffic and metro noise were clearly heard in the room. It was difficult to have a good sleep: with A/C the temperature was too high; without A/C and with a closed window it became hot very soon; without A/C and with an open window the traffic/metro noises were overwhelming. Cleanliness was far from perfect: I found in the bathroom long black hairs almost every day (I'm bald, so these cannot be mine!). Wi-fi often lost connection.

Only suitable for a short trip.

Not really suitable for a 7-day stay, but fine for a short trip.
Good location, close to public transport.
Unfortunately, the air conditioning was broken, and the hotel unfortunately did not do anything more than give us a table fan.
So we had the choice between completely overheated nights or nights in a draft.
There is no wardrobe, only a shelf. The bathroom is quite new, we liked it a lot, but unfortunately, there is no storage space for the utensils.

There are 2 supermarket on both sides of the hotel one block away so it was very convenient. Lots of different restaurants in the area and the subway is about 4 or 5 blocks away. The only downside is that there is no fridge in the room. We stay at the back side of the hotel and it is very noisy with the subway train going by about 20 hours a day. If you are a light sleeper, make sure you get a room in the front and hope it is not as loud.

Rooms are okey but not very clean and a bit worn out. Staff is not very polite especially men at the reception. Breakfast is excellent with many wonderful choices. Location is great with many beautiful places in a walking distance.
