Our stay at Castrol Hotel
Great service, very good food with BIG portions. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Specially the young woman in the pool bar. So friendly and polite.
The room was smaller then it looked like in the picture when we bought the trip.

Hotel to forget
Couple's holiday... to forget... the first day we arrived .. after a long night of travel we arrive in the morning around 9 and having booked here for 9 nights we sit down for breakfast and we get the bill to pay 20€ .. and ok.
We decide to go to the sea in front of us and we are very disappointed as you see refineries and oil ships... an absurd stench of oil... we go back to the hotel for a shower and the whole bathroom hangs on.... a lake of water that entered the bedroom.... a 1x1 bath....
Let’s now move on to breakfast... which starts from 7 to 10.... we always went down around 8... and you find almost nothing.... from the donut .. to the croissants that say to put at 8.30 because early.... we ask for a bottle of water ... and it was a fee .... a SHAME ....

Nice smaller hotel with lovely staff
Castro is centrally located, close to both commerce and city. The local bus runs often and right outside the door, so it's easy to jump in to Heraklion.
The hotel is nice and clean and the staff are really nice and helpful.
Please note that this is not a “look-out hotel”. We had views of a residential building, but it was our own fault that we had not been aware of it when ordering. There was fully booked at the hotel so no possibility of changing room.
The shower cabin is small in both width and height, but we were prepared for it before we arrived.
There was room cleaning every day. Large fridge with freezer in the room and safe.
Plenty of sunbeds at the pool - however we do not find the pool area very attractive.
Overall a good experience.

Good value, nice people, a bargain...
Have read the reviews before going there. Travelling with a 7yo kid in late august, early September we have found as follows: cozy little rooms (I guess the only drawback of the hotel is the rooms size, at least in the main building where we had room 24, cleaning in the rooms was on daily basis, fresh towels and bedsheets every day. ) with individual air-conditioner, nice and helpful staff, good food, decent prices. The location is good, on the main street, can be noisy by night, but not disturbing. Shops restaurants and beach nearby. We usually chose the Heaven beach bar, a nice little walk from the hotel. I'd recommend the hotels restaurant, Maxim, with tasty food, not expensive at all. We had half board, the breakfast was minimalist, but cannot complain about it, because we have found each morning something different, never felt that we needed more. The dinner was a la carte, choosing from a menu, with plenty of choices, cannot say it was boring. We had the lunch in different places, being on the move most of the time. Some people complained about dirty pool, that is not true, it was clean, the area well maintained, a few leaves from the trees, but nothing gross. We had a magnificent stay, we got more that expected. If you're on a budget don't hesitate, you'll get much more value to your money than in a cheap 4* hotel. I will come back for sure.
Be nice to the staff, because they give 110% for the clients to have a great holiday.
About the beach: someone said that there was an industrial plant nearby. Well this is true, but it is a couple of kilometers away, the water was crystal clear, nothing to complain about.

Nice hotel and restaurant, good location, near beach/shops. Do it!
What a lovely hotel! Very friendly staff. (Also for the cats!) Super nice lady at breakfast! Hot / cold breakfast, wide choice with fresh fruit. Room with air conditioning, nice bathroom (little) with lovely wide shower head. Narrow but long balcony.
Nice pool with bar and lifeguard, sunbathing area. Restaurant s, evening also recommended, delicious moussaka had! Wide choice and portions, affordable and you sit nice and cool. Again, so nice, nothing is too much
250 meters supermarket and souvenir shops, restaurants. Here turn left to beach (100) meters and sunbeds at Heaven Beach Club, nice cocktails and map. Lovely waves. Near Heraklion airport.
