Comfortable semi-furnished apartment in bucolic setting close to center of Sparta
If you like freshly-plucked oranges and peace and quiet, this is the place for you. Though Sparta’s center is a ten-minute walk away, you wouldn’t know it because Taygetos is located down a tranquil lane off of a main road. We arrived in the dead of winter so had our pick of the three or four apartments in this two-story house. We took the ground-floor apartment which was equiped with a refrigerator and small heater, but alas, no hot water maker or stove.
The decor of our very large space was, well, uhm…spartan. Consisting of a table with four chairs, a large comfortable bed, an armchair and a small upholstered bench comprised the room’s furnishings.
There is a kitchen counter with a sink, eating utensils and dishes, sponges, dishwashing liquid and a bathroom with--surprise!--a bottle of bubble bath perched on the bathtub. (No soap though.) To get the water hot, you have to open the fuse box and push a lever down and push it back up after five minutes. Sadly, the hot water was never very hot. However, the bathroom, kitchen area and the entire apartment is very neat and very clean.
Outside the building is a large field that was once probably used for farming. On a spring or summer day, it could be nice perching on a rock and taking in the sun. Here too are four or five orange trees literally dripping with ripe oranges--and in February too! No American-grown orange I’ve ever had can compare to the oranges we found in Greece. So delicious and succulent.
The evening of our second day at Taygetos, I had the pleasure of meeting the house’s owner, Nicholas. He came to check on the place on his way to Athens. A very nice, urbane man. He told me he started Taygetos because he wanted visitors to have a comfortable and affordable place to stay in Sparta.
Definitely, Taygetos gives you value for your money. If you’re looking for a standard hotel-type accomodation or even a person at a reception desk to talk to, this is not the place. You’re on your own from the moment you slide open the gate on the fence that surrounds the property. Also, as the previous reviewer mentioned, there’s no wifi. This can be a big plus if you’re looking to go cold turkey for a day or two from your devices and want to spend the entire time mediating. If you’re not though, it can be a downer.
If you want to feel as if you’re away from it all, enjoy being alone (by yourself or with friends) in a farm-like setting with great scenery and don’t mind the absence of Wifi, this could be for you. Besides, don’t forget the delights of Sparta (such as they are) are just a short walk away. Also, there’s a very good restaurant, En Hatipi, a short walk way away going towards and St. Nicolaus church.

There is no only vifi
A little strange guesthouse. Imagine a private house in an orange garden. No signboard, no any pointer. From the actual southern border of Sparti town past the church of Agios Nikolaos go along the eponymous long street, then turn left. Medlar, mulberry, oranges. You come, there is nobody, in locks of two doors the keys stick out – open, look and choose what number you like more. Inside there is everything, even a fireplace, built-in kitchen, but without a stove, bedside table, sofa, couch, table with four chairs, chair, cabinets. Spacious bathroom, hot water. High ceilings with wooden beams. An association with a room in a castle. But no just wifi. It's the reason I'm dropping my estimation. Well, also because of absence of kitchen and because of the fact that the location is relatively remote. To the main street, Odos Lycurgou you must walk for 20 minutes. And you have difficulties to find the location. Only very few locals heard the name and location of the street.

Απαίσια!
Πολύ έξυπνο από την πλευρά του ιδιοκτήτη να μας αναγκάσει να φύγουμε από το κατάλυμα και να δηλώσει ότι δεν παρεβρεθηκαμε εκεί ώστε να μην χάσει το φοβερό ποσό των 60€. Τέλος πάντων. Αρχίζω άσχημα. Το κατάλυμα ήταν άθλιο. Και αυτός είναι ο πιο επιεικής χαρακτηρισμός που μπορώ να πω. Ο οικοδεσπότης απαράδεκτος. Δεν μπορέσαμε να συνεννοηθούμε. Περάσαμε τις χειρότερες 3 ώρες τις ζωής μας εκεί μέσα. Έτσι και αλλιως δεν αντέχεις παραπάνω. Ήταν πολύ βρώμικο το δωμάτιο και έχοντας ξεχαστεί κάτι μέσα ήταν γεμάτο μερμήγκια παντού. Παντού. Δεν μπορούσαμε να κοιμηθούμε και ο οικοδεσπότης μας είπε να απομακρύνουμε το κρεβάτι από τον τοίχο και από την επόμενη ημέρα θα φώναζε καθαρίστρια. Οκ γελάω. Του ζητήσαμε να μας αλλάξει δωμάτιο καθώς γνωρίζαμε ότι υπήρχε και άλλο διαθέσιμο και αρνήθηκε. Τον καλούσαμε και δεν σήκωνε το τηλ. Στο τέλος του στείλαμε μήνυμα και του είπαμε ότι με όλη την κατάσταση και με τόσους συγκατοίκους (μερμήγκια) δεν μπορούμε να μείνουμε εκεί καθώς ανέβαιναν πάνω μας και δεν μπορούσαμε να κοιμηθούμε και απλά δεν απάντησε ποτέ. Το χειρότερο κατάλυμα. Και τα 30€ την ημέρα για αυτήν την αθλιότητα είναι τεράστιο ποσό. Και τσάμπα να με φιλοξενούσαν πάλι δεν θα πήγαινα εκεί. Ο στάβλος στο χωριό μου είναι πολύ πιο καθαρός και τίμιος από τα συγκεκριμένα καταλύματα.

Elendig
Hold dere langt unna. Vi hadde bestilt, men snudde i døra. Skittent, ustelt og en flekkete madrass som seng. Vi har aldri tidligere sett noe så elendig som dette. Ikke noe kjøkkenutstyr man kan bruke og ikke sengetøy tilgjengelig.

Σοφή επιλογή
Το τιμιοτερο 20ρικο που έχω δώσει ποτέ, κοντά στο κέντρο και πολύ ήσυχο μέρος . Το συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα ακόμα για ζευγάρια και οικογένειες... προτείνω να διαβάσουν όλοι πριν από την ενοικίαση διότι δεν διαθέτει κλιματισμό αλλά έχει δροσιά το μέρος
