Better to avoid
At the gate of "Merci Hotel", located in the middle of a garden, stands a signpost with the words "Korean gem". The owner seems to be of Korean origin, maybe in connection with the Samsung plant that has been functioning for a number of years near Galanta.
I arrived at around 14.00 and popped in the hotel, just to leave my luggage. I was met by the owner with an unpleasant "we didn't expect you so early". I then asked if there would be a possibility to have diner in the evening, since it is indicated on the hotel site that they have a restaurant. My question apparently further annoyed the owner who answered me that, if I wanted to have diner, I had to choose my dish immediately and to come at 19.00 sharp, which I did. The menu contains exclusively Korean dishes and the one I chose, prepared by a Slovakian lady from the hotel staff, was correct.
The room I was given was located on the ground floor, quite small and with old-fashioned furniture, but quite clean an acceptable for one night.
Upon departure, I wanted to pay my bill with a Visa card but the machine did not accept it. The owner insisted that the machine worked properly and that the problem came from my card. It might be the case but, during my 10 days stay in Slovakia, I have used my Visa card to settle my bill and all hotels here I have stayed as well as in restaurants and cafes. I never experienved any difficulty, except in "Merci hotel" in Galanta.
After leaving the hotel, I noticed that I had forgotten a sweater in the cupboard of my room. I wrote two messages to the hotel through Booking site but did not receive any answer. So the "Korean gem" happened, at least in my case, to be flawed.
