A sweet gem
Such a great surprise! I live in Carmel and can’t believe I had not been here before. Our lunch and lunch server were fantastic. The back deck melds into the redwoods beautifully. As we left, a housekeeper must have sensed we want to see the accommodations. She showed us 3 of the motel rooms. They are great: nice size, nicely appointed and the bathrooms (which are very spacious) seem to have been renovated very recently. And talk about clean- the restaurant bathrooms were spotless and when we left the last guest room, the housekeeper touched up the floors to remove any footprints. I have been in luxury hotel and resort sales forever and this experience at this little spot made me smile from ear to ear. We are planning to stay overnight soon.

Money over public health
1 star. I tested positive today for Covid, which is the day before my reservation. I canceled immediately, out of basic consideration for their staff and other guests. Instead of any compassion or flexibility, Fernwood Resort kept my deposit and hid behind a rigid 14-day cancellation policy, no exceptions, no matter the circumstances.
Think about the incentive this creates: a guest who's contagious and doing the responsible thing by staying home gets penalized financially for it. A policy like that doesn't protect the resort, it just pressures sick guests to either eat the cost or show up anyway. Neither of those is good for staff or other guests staying there.
After going back and forth, they still charged me $132.50, prioritizing money over public health. I tried to do the right thing by canceling my reservation and was met with a bill for it.
There are plenty of other places in Big Sur that will treat you like a human being instead of a walking transaction. I won't be back, and I'd think twice before trusting this place with your money, especially if you ever get sick before a stay.
Fernwood, do the right thing and be in touch about refunding my deposit.

Stay at Fernwood Resort
We spent two weekend nights at Fernwood Resort. The person who took our reservation by phone was very helpful. It's a beautiful location. However, my husband and I were bitten multiple times while sleeping in our bed in Room E. Upon checking out the next morning, he reported this to the staff. He couldn't tell if they took it seriously.

Small but tidy
We stayed in one of the hotel rooms. This is a convenient location along highway 1 in Big Sur. The room had a main room with a queen bed and a separate room with a full bed. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were a bit flat. The room was not very spacious. And it was very dark. The bathroom was particularly small and it did not have a fan. The towels stayed wet because the moisture could not escape the room. Also, check ins are not allowed after 10PM.

Immersive experience of camping and motorhome
Fernwood Resort is undoubtedly an EXCELLENT option for those seeking to experience the camper in an immersive way. Pfeiffer National Park is beautiful and worth a walk around. The resort has restaurant, shop, clean bathroom, and structure enough for you to have a comfortable night. We don't sleep in the cabins, so I can't evaluate their comfort. However, if you go by motorhome, I guarantee that this is a great option to enjoy the night and day.
