You’ll go once and be hooked! You’ll go back!

I’ve visited this hotel many times since moving to West Texas and only four hours away. I spoke to the Owner once and she took me on a tour of the newly remodeled rooms as I grew up near the Amish in Millersburg, Ohio who remodeled the rooms with new furniture, wood, etc. Then after an email a few years back with her Husband I found out they owned another fine and historical hotel in Marfa. We went to see that one also. That’s another fun event. I can’t explain it but I keep going back to The Lodge in Cloudcroft. I love to sit and wonder what it was like for those that stayed here in the 40’s. Ask the people behind the desk about some famous people that stayed there. Hint: Their pictures are in the women’s restroom. There are two gift shops and I never go in one without finding a nice, unique gift. The Buyer, whoever that may be, makes sure there’s something for everyone. It takes a lot of time, effort, patience and money to restore, remodel, make an old hotel relivable and maintained. The Duncan’s are the best at this!

We arrived Saturday August 8th the room was great, the front desk folks and bartenders were amazing. However, they could use a more attentive hostess and serving help. We had a dinner reservation for fine dining at 6 pm, we showed up 10 minutes early, but they seated others without a reservation and left us standing there waiting. In my opinion they should be more receptive to guests.

Staying at the Lodge in Cloudcroft is an experience! I enjoyed everything about my stay, from the atmosphere to the decor. The breakfast vouchers I was given for my 2 night stay were very kind, and I also enjoyed dining in the 1899 restaurant for breakfast. Keep up the good work, the Lodge!

Beautiful But Disappointing

The Lodge at Cloudcroft appears to be struggling. First, there were no toiletries available in our room. When asked, was told that “the order had not come in” and was directed to the gift shop where we had to purchase them. Additional cost, $15! Second, the air conditioning unit in the room was extremely noisy. Third, we made a dinner reservation for a certain time but did not get seated until 15 minutes AFTER the reserved time. It took another 20 minutes for the server to acknowledge us and take our order. Then it was 30 more minutes for our food to arrive. The Lodge at Cloudcroft was a disappointment.

My husband and I loved the public spaces on the property....lots of comfortable places to sit both inside and outside, a fireplace with fire going in the lobby, coffee all day, games, etc.
My only words of advice are if you're expecting the wonderful property to have restaurant services, and you visit Monday or Tuesday, you're eating dinner in the bar. Not bad, but they were short of food after a busy weekend. Also, I can't quite understand why there is no breakfast service. Even cheap motels provide breakfasts. It's not part of the Lodge's model but it sure would be much nicer for guests if they didn't have to eat all their meals away from the hotel if they're there on Monday or Tuesday.
I do want to complement the staff though. Monday evening there were cookies at the desk so I sort of expected it on Tuesday evening. When I was told there weren't any, I was disappointed....but the staff actually went searching the kitchen for some so I wouldn't be disappointed. The didn't find any cookies but I appreciated their effort to try to please.
