Horseback riding tour
We had a great time with our wrangler and the 2 hour horseback ridding tour! Compliments to the wrangler! Was the second time here ( did the 4-hour tour in 2025)

Do not go riding here
I purchased this ride for my daughter and her girlfriend, and based on their experience, I would not recommend Bill Cody Ranch’s horseback rides.
My primary concern is safety. During the ride, another guest who appeared to have little riding experience was unable to continue and had to be escorted back to the ranch. This left the remaining riders unattended on the trail for approximately 15 minutes with no wrangler present and no bear spray. The remaining group consisted of my daughter, her girlfriend, a grandfather, and a child. Leaving guests alone on horseback in grizzly country is unacceptable. Horses can spook, riders can fall, and wildlife encounters can happen unexpectedly. A situation can become dangerous very quickly.
It was also concerning to learn that the wrangler had only been working at the ranch for about a week and was not from the area. In a region known for grizzly bears and backcountry travel, guests should reasonably expect guides with extensive local knowledge and experience.
The value simply was not there either. The ride cost nearly $500 for two people after taxes and tip. A lunch stop was included as part of the experience, but the wrangler was unable to get the fire started. Guests ended up helping try to start it, but lunch never happened. After what became roughly five hours due to the various delays and issues, no alternative meal was provided when they returned to the ranch.
What makes this even more disappointing is that we spend significant time in the Cody and Yellowstone area every year and have participated in numerous horseback rides at other local ranches. Most of those operations charge less, have dedicated cooks who go out ahead of the group so lunch is ready when riders arrive, and staff their rides with additional wranglers, often around one wrangler for every four riders. The difference in professionalism, preparation, and safety was noticeable.
For the price being charged, we expected a much higher level of organization and safety. This may be acceptable for highly experienced riders, but based on what occurred, I would not consider this a safe environment for inexperienced riders, families, or anyone expecting the level of supervision typically provided by other ranches in the area.

Not recommended for dinner!
I travel with my Medical Alert Service Dog, a small Maltese Yorkie. He is well mannered. Upon arrival we were greeted by an unfriendly person who said pets were not allowed. When I explained that he was my service dog, they merely sneered in disbelief. Once we were seated for dinner, there were two local dogs who were permitted to free roam the property including the area within 4 ft of our table. Those dogs began causing a ruckus and my dog responded by a short bark. We were quickly told that he had to go. My dog had been concentrating on his duty and was startled but they were not dissuaded. I had to put him in the car and thankfully it was a cool evening. In all honesty, I felt as though the owners did all they could to distract and disturb him.
Our server was very pleasant but the food was expensive and not well prepared. I saw several people send plates back to the kitchen for one reason or another. My dad ordered steak and he enjoyed it. However, my daughter and I ordered bison burgers and they were raw in the center! I hate to make a fuss but raw is unacceptable. We asked to have them cooked more thoroughly but instead of taking them to the kitchen, a man in a Tshirt who I can only assume was the cook, came out and told us that the food was cooked properly. We were made to feel stupid for wanting a burger that was at least cooked through to medium. Nevertheless I forced the issue and asked for them to be remade. When the new bison burgers arrived they were little better. We ate them hurriedly and left as quickly as possible.

Don't trust this place!
Don't trust this place! This resort states it has a flexible cancelation policy, but it does not. When I called months in advance to change a reservation (their policy only required 14 days for a refund minus a $75 fee), they stated they would refund the deposit of several hundred dollars. Then they refused to do so and made up a bunch of lies and excuses that weren't in the policy or communicated to me.
