A fun quirky hotel in the heart of Madison

We stayed for two nights in the Hotel Ruby Marie. The hotel is clean, comfortable, quirky, and makes for a really pleasant stay. We had two rooms, and each was different. The hotel is well-located in central Madison, has convenient free surface parking within about ten steps of the elevator, and has a fun local bar on the first floor (the Up North bar feels like a friendly neighborhood Wisconsin bar, and while we were there it had a week’s worth of live music scheduled — minus one night for a Packer game — and the country band we heard on a Tuesday night was pretty good). There was also a decent breakfast buffet in the downstairs cafe. The next time we’re in Madison, we’ll stay here again.

The room was clean and very large. We got the king suite with the copper tub which was amazing! We got two free drinks to the bar on the first floor. The worker was very friendly and helpful. There is also plenty of parking behind the building.

Hotel Ruby Marie was an excellent stay. Clean room. The complimentary breakfast at the Come Back In was so much better than the continental breakfast you typically get at hotels. The two free drinks at the Up North Pub were also a nice addition. The train and the traffic on the street can be loud, but not too bad, and earplugs are provided as a convenience. We didn't need them. The room didn't have a blow dryer, but staff at the front desk happily provided one for us. The closeness to everything in Madison and the charming decor of the hotel means we'll be staying there again.

Parking is one of my reasons for choosing the Ruby Marie. It could not be easier. My room was fine except for two things: the bathroom light starts to flicker after a few minutes. It’s an intense, strobe-like flicker that might cause issues with the epileptic. Also, the bathtub stopper did not fit properly, so taking a bath was out of the question. Sorry to whine, I mean, the shower worked great! Zero complaints about room cleanliness and staff. Thank you.

My room faced a very busy thoroughfare intersection. So it was quite noisy at times. The hotel must be aware because they provided earplugs free of charge!
