Bed Bugs

I have been a Marriott customer for decades and am a Lifetime Titanium Elite member. I have also stayed at this property multiple times in the past without issue, which makes this review particularly disappointing to write.
During my most recent stay, both my wife and I woke up with numerous clustered bites that had not been present the night before. I personally experienced more than 20 bites, and my wife experienced more than a dozen. We documented the injuries with photographs and reported the issue immediately.
To the hotel's credit, management responded professionally and arranged for Ecolab to inspect the room after our departure. The inspection reportedly found no active evidence of bed bugs or other insects. However, from my perspective, a post-stay inspection does not explain what happened to either of us overnight, nor does it change the photographic evidence we provided.
The hotel's position would be more understandable if we had no evidence. If we had no credibility. If only one person received bites. If the bites had not appeared overnight. If the bite patterns were not the classic clustered zigzag pattern.
The timing, pattern, and quantity make any other explanation extremely difficult for a reasonable person to believe. In fact, they make insect exposure during our stay far more plausible than a random, unrelated skin reaction affecting two people simultaneously.
The hotel ultimately offered 20,000 Marriott Bonvoy points as a goodwill gesture but declined to refund the room. After escalating the matter through the property's management team, the General Manager, and Marriott's Elite Team, the decision remained unchanged.
Given the circumstances, the physical discomfort involved, and my long history and loyalty to Marriott, I believed a full room refund would have been the fair outcome. More importantly it would have been a signal that they took the matter serious and ensured the next customer did not suffer in the way my wife and I did.
I will let future guests draw their own conclusions. I can only share my experience and the facts as they occurred.

As you noted, we immediately engaged Ecolab, an independent pest-control specialist, to conduct a thorough inspection of the room. Their inspection found no evidence of bed bugs or any other insects. While we understand that this outcome did not provide the answers you were seeking, we took your concerns seriously and completed a comprehensive review of the room.

Great building...lacking everything else.

Everything but the parking!
One of my favorite metro hotels....with one exception. I cannot stand valet only hotels.
Rooms are very comfortable but whether you are facing east vs any other direction will make a difference that cannot be overlooked (to excuse the bad joke). Facing east towards the Capitol and it will be relatively quiet and a fantastic view. Face west...and you've got a highway. South is a parking garage and mall. North is back to the highway. Noise is not really an issue (with the exception of west facing rooms, which do get traffic noise and are an absolute flop)
Breakfast is alright, uninspired but serviceable.
The highlight of the Providence Renaissance is the view. You've got a 50% chance of getting a good one...may the odds be ever in your favor.
Oh, service is absolutely middle-ing. Actually, on second thought I've got to say slightly below what you should be expecting based on the setting.
Best way to put it, 92% location. 50% service. Beautiful Luxury Collection facility, Residence Inn level service. Weird mix.

I would only book directly
They disrespect people who use third party like Expedia- I am a silver Bonvoy member who booked through Expedia a double bed room and was a given a king room. Their solution since they gave away my double room, saying I wasn’t guaranteed because third party booking which I never heard of before!! And I travel every week!
Was to bring a roll away- it took an hour to arrive, was basically like a hospital bed one pillow and a thin blanket and guy from housekeeping who brought it was angry that we inconvenienced his night - rude!!
The gym is ok- clean but no windows which always feels trapped and dirty
The restaurant in the hotel was the rudest people ever serving but the food was good- so just ignore the people and enjoy the food!

First, the staff at the front desk and in the restaurant are excellent. We arrived early and were wet and exhausted on a chilly morning. We asked if we could possibly leave our bags or check in early. Lucy jumped in and got us into our room right away. We were able to sleep, warm up and relax before heading out to explore. It was wonderful for her to help. Several other times during our stay, Lucy also helped with ideas for what to do and was alsways very friendly and professional.
The room was well appointed and in a great location. The restaurant was really quite good for breakfast and the staff were very friendly. Extra coffee offered frequently and with a smile.
A drawback is the very dim and sparse lighting in the bathroom. It's a big space and has very little lighting. The maid service did not leave lotion for day 2 and the bodywash in the shower was empty by the third shower and not refilled. Downsides to the otherwise pleasant stay.
