Community, music, comfy, beautiful decor and grounds. What I need and love about traveling!
El Rey was a dream. Super chill, food truck was great, fire pit, music, all of it was great! Last minute and less than a 12 hr stay, and it was so much fun! I will do it again and spend more time enjoying poolside and community ♡

Magical Retro Stay in Santa Fe
El Rey Court was one of the highlights of our road trip. The property has such a unique retro charm while still feeling stylish and thoughtfully maintained. The entire place has a magical atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy it.
One of our favorite parts was the private patio in front of our room. It was the perfect place to relax with a drink, unwind after a long day of driving, and soak in the beautiful surroundings.
In the evening, we took advantage of the hot tub and sauna, and it was exactly what we needed. The space was peaceful, cozy, and incredibly relaxing after a day on the road.
If you're looking for a place with character instead of a standard hotel, El Rey Court is a wonderful choice. We'd happily stay here again the next time we're in Santa Fe.

The bed was a lot less firm than when we were here the last two summers. Sure missed the solid mattress!

Vintage Vibes, Motel Reality
This was my first stay at El Rey. I was eager to give it a try as I'd known about and passed by it for years during prior visits to Santa Fe. I appreciate and seek out older properties with character when I travel. I also have friends who've visited who raved about it.
When I arrived, I was given a room directly behind the check-in building. I asked for a room in a quieter location, as I expected noise from the adjacent food truck and outdoor bar and busy Cerrillos Room and knew there were other rooms available. The clerk who checked me in was not eager to help. He assured me that it would be quiet. It was not. Fortunately, I had earplugs.
The room itself felt dark and uncomfortable, especially as the windows didn't close securely and I couldn't open the blinds due to the proximity of the outdoor bar. The interior lighting and furnishings did little to entice me to relax and spend time in the room.
Overall, I left feeling disappointed by the experience at El Rey, which felt more like a tired vintage roadside motel than a charmingly updated and welcoming oasis. The potential is there but the execution is missing.

New favorite Santa Fe hotel
I usually stay with friends in Santa Fe but this is going to be my go to hotel from now on. I went with a friend to celebrate her 50th bday and have always wanted to give this a hotel a try. I am so glad I did. I love it's low-key beauty and charm--and the fact that it's not in the thick of downtown or the plaza so away from tourists. The Reina hotel bar is reason to come alone--I saw solo travelers drawing, couples getting cocktails, people with cute dogs, people making friends. The cocktails were phenomenal. After a day in the sun visiting the International Folk Art Market, we were thrilled to cool off at the awesome pool. I'm in the art world and appreciated the style of rooms and furnishings.
If you want to walk to every site or are traveling with small children, this is not the hotel for you. If you want a local vibe and great service, this is for you. Also, walk over to The Pantry for breakfast when you go. It's old school Santa Fe at its best.
