This is B&B, not a hotel. There were some things which needed fixing (signage, bathroom repairs, and some outside items). The room was spacious and hospitable. Met the host when we were coming back, soaked from a hike amidst a surprise rain and asked if we could dry our clothes. He was friendly and accommodating, though the washer/dryer was not an option for guests. Very kind and helped us a lot.
Honestly, I liked the come-and-go breakfast options and shared kitchen for little things. Homey, sometimes a little more than I like, such as throw pillows which are a touch item I don’t need, with cleanliness in mind.
Good value for the area.
Driveway maintenance would be helpful for those arriving in the dark or managing non-SUV vehicles on rainy days.

The room was large and comfortable. It had a working cable tv and lovely view of the rainforest. The house was quiet and well organized. The bed was shaken and needs new mattress.

Rooms were clean, breakfast was great with a variety of quick items to grab for breakfast including fresh fruit, oatmeal, pastries, and coffee/tea. Location was perfect…5 minutes to the national park!
Some improvement areas: entrance area to hotel/porch could be cleaned up of tools and pet items for better curb appeal. Also, I know it’s a rainforest and thus very humid, but finding a way to decrease the humidity in the rooms would make a more comfortable stay. None of our damp/wet items dried and the fixtures were rusting.

The room was fine and the location ideal for our interest in the Volcano NP. It was great to have access to a full kitchen. This was very convenient for us. We would certainly consider staying here again.

Peace and Solitude
My stay at the Volcano Forest Inn exceeded expectations. It was the perfect setting and quite the adventure driving in the light rain a few hundred yards down a dirt road surrounded by thick trees to finally arrive at this beautiful Inn nestled in the Volcano Forest. Jon texted the entry code as well as very detailed instructions and information prior to my arrival which was very useful as well as welcoming. If I texted a question, he would promptly respond. Jon was there to greet me as I drove up and was very friendly and helpful. He showed me all of the amenities: an accommodating kitchen full of kitchenware, plenty of snacks, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, pasties, etc.; the living room with a flatscreen TV showing a live stream of the volcano; my room which was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Although all of the rooms were occupied, it was always quiet and peaceful. Not once did I encounter another guest while using the kitchen to get coffee and breakfast during my entire stay. It truly felt like I had the whole place to myself. Volcanoes National Park was minutes away and the close location made it very convenient for me to access the Park whenever the lava was flowing. I will stay at this beautiful, and serene Inn every time I visit the Big Island from south Maui. I was looking for peace and solitude and found it at the Volcano Forest Inn. Unforgettable experience!
