Great hotel, great people
Our stay has been great. We arrived here and were immediately received super friendly. An employee of the hotel brought our suitcases to the beautiful (super new) room overlooking the beautiful rice fields. The hotel is close to the centre of Ella. The staff are always ready to call you a tuktuk, or they will take you to Ella city centre themselves. We have slept in many hotels, but never slept in a hotel where the staff are so helpful and friendly. The rooms are super clean, are cleaned daily and provided with new towels. We are very happy to have stayed at Namara Green and would recommend it to anyone

Worst experience in Sri Lanka ever.
DO NOT STAY HERE. Extremely disappointing experience.
The property is still under construction, with workers making noise in the morning starting 9am, and there is no proper 24/7 reception or reliable customer service.
We booked two nights, but one of the beds had no blanket. When we called the first evening to ask for one, we were told the staff was already sleeping and they hung up on us. The next day, the room was not cleaned and the blanket was still missing, so we spent both nights without it and without any cleaning done in both rooms we got.
When we raised the issue, the receptionist became aggressive rather than trying to resolve it. Where do you see a place where the receptionist yell at customers ?? We were told we could leave if we were unhappy, but they would still refuse to refund the second night, which had already been paid in advance.
Other important details were not clearly communicated either, including breakfast being available only for 1h from 8 to 9 AM (!!). At checkout, staff repeatedly knocked on our door at 11 AM in a very unpleasant way to kick us out of the room. Of course they didn’t tell us in advance about the early check out time.
Overall, the experience felt completely unprofessional and far below basic hospitality standards and far far away below the price they ask for. I would strongly recommend choosing another hotel.

Good but not vgreat ... yet, but with big potential!
There is a lot to say about this boutique hotel. It is a good hotel but not great. Not yet! It has potential and can become a very good hotel.
I stayed here for 5 days, unfortunately right during the period when a cyclone hit Sri Lanka. We had no electricity for half a day in 2 consecutive days. Due to the weather conditions the outside temperature was somewhere around 18 degrees Celsius. Because of this it was cold in the room too. I don't think it was more than 20 degrees in the room, maybe even less. The hotel does not have a heating system, the air conditioning does not work in heating mode either. Even so, taking into account that we had no electricity for 2 days and that the hotel does not have a generator, no appliance would have worked anyway. Breakfast is served in the lobby which is also an open space that communicates with the outside. It was cold here too and we had to stay with our jackets on. Luckily we had some winter clothes with us.
I will detail the experience here by categories:
Staff: very nice, attentive and friendly. They provided us with everything we needed. During the power outage they gave us blankets, battery-powered lamps, candles... Luckily we had a tablet on which we had some movies and documentaries downloaded from a streaming platform. There were times when it was raining so hard that we had to stay in the room. In the last 24 hours of our stay we had no signal on our phone. So, long live the tablet and the offline movies :)
Food: good but not extraordinary. They asked me if I wanted eggs sunny side up and then they brought me for over hard once :). The traditional food is good but it is exclusively vegetarian, with rice, potatoes, noodles and lentils. The flatbreads were undercooked and were not good. One day I found a long hair in the food. I'm not a squeamish person by nature and I kept eating, but after 2 minutes I found another one :)
Room: spacious and quite nicely decorated. We didn't have the best room (I'll go into more detail below). In this type of room there is a window in the bathroom, and above the window there was a piece of ventilation grille that constantly communicates with the outside. There was a space between the door and the door frame where you could put a finger. Imagine how cold air enters the bathroom and how you could hear the rain and the sound of the jungle from outside even with the bathroom door closed. Maybe in hot conditions it would be ok but like this... I was cold every time I got out of the shower. The cleanliness was impeccable. The big bed and the mattress were very good. I slept very well. There is no TV in the room so take a book with you.
The hotel: it is positioned somehow on a slope. I took a picture with the hotel from the opposite hill.
From the main road you go down a few steps, you enter the lobby which would normally be the ground floor. However, our room was in the basement. Basically, I went down one floor to the basement, but on the other side of the building I was somehow on the 1st floor.
The hotel is under reconstruction and renovation. They have raised 2 more floors and are arranging a roof terrace where meals will be served. The rooms on the high floors, starting with those in the lobby and up to the last floor are much nicer than those situated in "underground", with a larger glass surface, with a better view and a large window in the bathroom. That ventilation grille is no longer there. Much nicer and more comfortable.
Location: About 2 km from the city center of Ella. You can't get to Ella on foot, the road being very narrow and without a pedestrian area. It is very dark at night. We had a driver. For those who travel on their own, I recommend TukTuk. Talk to the staff and it will be resolved.
The view from the room is to your liking. I have attached some pictures. The location is very quiet. There are a lot of animals around, being practically in the jungle. From the balcony you can see deer, songbirds, etc. We liked it, even though it rained non-stop. We actually saw blue sky for a few minutes only on the last day, an hour before we left the hotel.
Now, why do I say it's a good hotel, but still not great. Not because we had a power outage, or because it was cold in the room, or because I once found some hair in the food. These are details. I say it's good and not excellent because it wasn't ready to receive guests when we got there. The hotel was closed until August for renovation. We arrived in November. I had read the reviews, but I thought the work was finished and it wasn't. Because the work wasn't finished, there was a lot of noise during the day. Workers were patrolling the resort and you could hear drills. The room is well soundproofed, but still... And we could have at least been warned about this aspect. Plus, we could have changed the room to one without that shower grate. But all the good rooms on the upper floors were under construction. So no alternatives. The experience of a breakfast on the roof terrace would have changed the perspective too.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and the staff was very, very nice. I follow them on social media and it seems like the construction has finished now. I would give this hotel another chance. I think we would come back, especially if they keep the accommodation prices affordable.

New structure yet to be completed
New 3-storey hotel and a breakfast terrace overlooking the valley. Spacious rooms with easily adjustable shower. Wifi not very powerful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast must be ordered first because it is made at the time. Secluded position from the center, better because it is out of chaos. Recommended.

The worst of the worst
A new hotel, no elevator, by the side of a road and orchards. You're attended by a gentleman who claims to be the Manager but is not, with a challenging body odor. You arrive at the room, all new, terrace under construction: no fridge or safe. Sad area. There is no electricity, for 2 hours and several “engineers” looking for a solution, explain that there is only electricity in one part of the hotel, but they do not change your room. After 2 hours, by magic there is electricity. Breakfast: they put the foods that the Manager decides on, not ask. Terrible.
I had a reservation for 2 nights but I left that terrifying hotel. Nothing recommended, despite being completely new, they have no finish and do not serve the Customers, they are not prepared even if they intend to be. The worst part is the travel agencies that should know the location of the hotels but only want to charge. There are better hotels. Forget about this one.
