Highly recommended

Aniwatta Rest is one of the best places to stay in Kandy. The location is very convenient and ideal for anyone visiting Kandy, with many clothing shops and key areas within walking distance.
The atmosphere was calm and peaceful, making it a very relaxing place to stay. The rooms were comfortable, and the room prices were very fair and affordable compared to other hotels and guest houses in Kandy.
If you are looking for a peaceful stay, convenient location, affordable room rates, and easy access to shops in Kandy, Aniwatta Rest is a highly recommended place to stay.

Not recommended at all

Worst place ever. Zero on cleanliness, zero on hygiene, and zero on feel comfortable. We just checked in, and after half an hour, we checked out. It was not a suitable place to live with kids at all. The drainage going next to the room smells like hell. Bathroom full of mould and spider webs everywhere. Kids were terrified. There was a wide open window in the bathroom, which couldn't even close. Anyone could climb through the window and get into the room. No keys are being provided. Only to lock the room from inside. And with a massive wide open window if anyone comes into the room, good luck. Poorest in safety. Not recommended at all.

Avoid

Dropped off here by our tuktuk driver because we couldn't find the hotel we were looking for in the rain. The reception looks decent and rather clean. Receptionist doesnt speak English. The room seemed what can be expected in this price range, basic and whilst very out dated, clean. But looks can be deceiving. There was no hot water, beds hard as floor boards, leaking toilet. Hours after the rain had stopped the noise of dripping water on the plate roof was all but unbearable.
We had a trip planned the next day to Nuraya Eliya, but because of a nation wide strike these were all cancelled. We decided to leave immediately after hearing this news. The owner (not receptionist) was kind enough to help us get a taxi instead. There had been heavy rain in the area and the arranged taxi driver was reluctant to go. He said het could only take us if we'd pay for a simple accommodation for him so he wouldn't have to drive back home late at night, else he wouldn't take us. During the ride he had sad stories about the poor conditions he lived under. We felt sorry for him and gave him a pretty good tip at the end. The next day I got a "no show" email from booking. So in the end all the was after was some extra cash.
