Incredible Guesthouse
We can't say enough great things about Kingsley Place. Kingsley is very attentive and every little detail is taken care of. The room is clean with a big mosquito net, and towels provided. There was an amazing outdoor area all to ourselves with comfy chairs, a lounge, dining table, fridge, kettle, and an outdoor shower for when we just came back from the beach.
The meals (Breakfast and Dinner) thay Kingsley's family prepares are absolutely delicious and with big portions. One of my favourite meals in all of Sri Lanka. We had three really relaxed days here and really loved it.

Local Sri Lankan hospitality at its finest at a beautiful beach setting
Kingsley's place has been running as a guesthouse since December 2016 so it is still quite a new listing. Reading the comments left in the guest book since then, we knew we weren't the only ones to have been overwhelmed by our stay here, from the venue to the food and most significantly, Kingsley and his family's attentiveness and kindness towards us.
Location wise it is 3 minute walk away from Hiriketya beach, but towards the east end of the small coved beach. We travelled from Mirissa and took the bus to Matara and then to Dickwella, followed by a short tuk tuk ride (200 rupees). Our tuk tuk driver didn't know where it was and the map location is slightly wrong but the locals can help you to find it. It is pretty much opposite the local temple which is itself next to a motorcycle repair garage.
The set up of the accommodation is a self contained annexe next to Kingsley's home. There is a separate entrance with key, 2 bedrooms with good king sized beds and mosquito nets and 2 fans. The bedrooms are connected with no adjoining door so would also suit a family of four perhaps. The bathroom was set up as a wet room and was clean and functional. The outdoor area to the front of the property is where we spent most of our time, it was a beautiful little haven , sheltered from the road outside with the feeling of being completely immersed within nature. There is an outdoor shower too, seats, a swing and a mini fridge. Kingsley set up the outdoor area for us so that mosquito coils were lit in the evenings and a fan to keep us cool and shoo away the flies. Meals were had outside which added to the whole experience. Such thought and attention to detail is so apparent when you stay with Kingsley.
Breakfast is included in the price and dinner is an extra 500 rupees per person (at the time of writing). We highly recommend that you pay the extra as the dinners were amazing and absolutely enormous! Proper Sri Lankan home cooked food by Kingsley's wife, so many dishes and all so tasty! We left a few kilograms heavier than when we arrived :) Better than anything you would get at the beach restaurants and so much more reasonable in terms of price.
We spent a lot of time chilling in the front garden, being absorbed in the nature. The beach is fantastic, small and not as touritsy as Mirissa. There are plenty of places to rent surf boards and a few bars/restaurants. We walked along to Nilwella one morning which was lovely, there's an awesome little beach there and you can see all the local fishermen hanging out.
Without Kingsley and his family, our experience of this place would not have been the same. If you want to feel that you are getting the local experience of living in a village, eating local food and experiencing the best of Sri Lankan hospitality then this is the place for you. Yes it can be a bit noisy at times (the bird songs in the morning, the dogs barking, the early morning songs from the temple- which I actually found very soothing - the tuk tuk drivers) but this all adds to the experience in my mind. You just have to be open minded, otherwise just bring ear plugs! Kingsley's English is limited but again we were able to communicate all our needs. He was really helpful in organising everything for us including taxis and surfboards.
All in all, an amazing listing and experience. We would love to return and highly recommend this to anyone after a local Sri Lankan experience (we even got a drum performance from Kingsley's son and browsed Kingsley's daughters drawings!). Thank you Kingsley and his family and Kbl (who we met on our last day). Enjoy!

Waanzinnig lekker!!
Beste rotti ooit!! Wat een baas staat hier in de keuken! Samen met zijn zoon maken ze er een feestje van! Locals komen hier eten of komen het afhalen. Dat zegt in principe genoeg!! In dit hippe gedeelte is dit een verademing!! Go go go!!
