Family Holiday
We started our 3 week Sri Lanka holiday in Columbo at a snazzy hotel for 3 nights. Then off to Jaffna for 4 nights at another snazzy hotel. Both were great. Then we made our way to Trincomalee for 5 days at the beech. We opted for the more modest, rough and ready (and basic) Golden Beech Cottages because of the location ie right on the beech. I have to say that this has been the best part of the holiday thus far. The owner, Priya is really friendly and accommodating. The rooms whilst being basic beech huts were clean and air conditioned. The beds were comfortable. We did not try and access wifi so this was not an issue for us but I understand wifi was accessible.
Breakfast was not included as there was no restaurant at the time of our booking but the owner opened an on site restaurant on the day we left.
The beech was fantastic- very clean. The sea was warm and calm. Very close to the accommodation was a great scuba diving centre with very good staff. Also whale watching and dolphin watching available right off the beech.
The restaurants along the beech are very good but come at a premium. We ate mostly away from the beech.
The bar on the beech called ‘Your Choice’ served great cocktails, in particular an amazing Pina Colada. It also served a good barista coffee.
Lastly the staff at all of the above were friendly and professional.
One final word. At all times we have felt very safe in all respects. I imagine that there must be some level of crime as there is everywhere - but we have seen nothing whatsoever that appeared to be any sort of issue.
All in all the Golden Beech Cottages provided brilliant value for money and has so far been the best part of our stay. We would love to return one day.

Underground, though right on the beach
There is a confusing game here with the name: because the old Golden Beach cottages, which have just been renovated and completely re-arranged, are now called the Golden Beach Hotel...here these cottages are in part really just so to be called. The one I lived in was underground, shower and toilet in a roomed-together annex, and the booth right in front of the restaurant. The hotel may have other, better rooms, but mine was dark, crummy, with old carpeting and nasty bathroom. Location but right on the beach

We stayed for 5 nights in this property, The bungalow facing the sea is really impressive: built of wood, simple but cozy with air conditioning, ceiling shovel and mini bar, allows you to fall asleep and wake up to the relaxing sound of the waves a few meters away. The beach is clean and the sea very beautiful, ideal for those seeking direct contact with nature.
There are sunbeds available, although umbrellas are missing, so in the hottest hours it can be a bit uncomfortable to stay on the beach. A less pleasant element is the presence of crows that croak continuously even in the very early morning and, unfortunately, dirty the surroundings and unfortunately also towels and people, taking away a little magic from the environment.
The staff is friendly and helpful, but you can sense that they are not yet fully used to handling the needs of tourists, especially in terms of organization. Another point to improve is the cleanliness: the Service is not carried out daily as you would expect but you must expressly request it, and this can annoy those who stay more days.
Overall the experience is positive for the unique location and the natural beauty of the place, but with some extra attention to management and cleanliness it could become a structure of the highest standard.

Laid back beach location, everything you need.
The location is fantastic, as previously mentioned and rooms have terraces, which are a great place to sit and relax with a cold beer.
We arranged a Tuk-Tuk tour with Kajan from the Cottages and he showed us around the area, which was really interesting to get off the beach and see the local life and culture in Trincomalee.
Lots of options for snorkeling/diving/dolphin watching available.
The beach is clean and staff are helpful with everything you need.
Choice of restaurants within a short walk. The restaurant attached to the hotel is convenient but there are better options off the beach (Rice & Curry was a winner every time).
The staff are very helpful and the area feels very safe.
We really enjoyed our stay at Golden Beach Cottages and would go back in heart beat.

Beautiful location
Location is great, we had cottage 1 is right on the beach. The room is very spacious. All linen and towels were also clean. However, a lot of overdue maintenance, which is a real shame about such a beautiful location. The shower head hung loose, as did the toilet seat. There is no cleaning although we stayed there 4 nights. In itself, that was not a problem for us. We were immediately given new towels when we asked for them. We had breakfast there for 3 days was fine. The view is amazing. Furthermore, you are super close everywhere; 5 minutes walk across the beach to Fernando’s and on the 18th
