Alas not a 5 star experience
There well may be 5 star and lovely rooms at the Joiners Arms, but alas, that was not our room (The Coquet). It was the ground floor of the adjoining building, with two small windows, one looking onto the car park and the other onto the road. The floor was stone, and there was no carpet. The room was dominated by a bathtub in the middle, and a huge fireplace. The bathroom was tiny and unfortunately smelled of drains. However, when I tried to open the windows to air out the room, they were locked, and the hotel told me it was their policy not to allow them to open. Altogether uncomfortable, and not 5 stars, so I would avoid getting that room.

Beautiful Hotel- Would definitely return
Stayed in the Tweed room for 3 nights.
First impression was the room was lovely. Very quirky and ye olde worldy . Stone floors and quality furnishings. Wood burning fire in bedroom. Bathroom was stunning with a great shower and quality toiletries. . As a couple we didn't use the separate bunk beds which could best described as being in a cupboard but not saying that as a detriment, to the contrary if bringing kids they will love it. Cosy and like a harry potter bed under the stairs.
Having a small dog with us the enclosed garden was great. The garden area had a hot tub, dining table and chairs and a padded seating area. Just perfect.
The only criticism I would say was the mattress on the bed was so firm it caused for an uncomfortable sleep so much so we asked for an extra duvet to place on top of bed. I like a firm mattress but this was too much.
This however would be the only criticism in what was a wonderful stay
The restaurant / bar area looked great Very welcoming with the furnishings and lighting. Staff were also very attentive and friendly.
The breakfast each morning was plentiful l, why great choice of cold buffer items and hot dishes of your choosing.
It is a great base for the lovely villages nearby. Would not hesitate to return and we plan to

We booked the tweed which is a fantastic self contained room with a garden and barrel hot tub! That went down a treat for our mini moon!
The decor is always quirky and stunning! We love being minutes from the beach.
The only thing that lets it down is the supplementary cost for breakfast that used to be standard and felt like a real treat, it’s quite basic now and the breakfast coffee machine is awfully weak - the nespresso machine in the room is actually better.
Seat covers in the dinning room could do with being changed as the leather is cracked and not so comfy to sit on.
Overall loved our stay, like last time and we would come back again!

Stayed for one night while attending a wedding. We knew check in wasn't until 3pm, but thought we might be able to check in earlier. We arrived 1.45pm and asked about check in. Without even asking for my name or checking whether our room was ready, we were told "no, not until 3pm you'll have to come back." As we needed to be at the wedding by 3.45pm, we had some time to kill so we decided to order a pizza. We'd heard good things about the food and were looking forward to it. After at least 35 minutes, we noticed people who ordered after us had received their meals. When I asked where our pizza was, someone else checked and couldn't find our order. She then spoke to the staff member who served us, and said the order hadn't gone through and they would sort it asap. Unfortunately we couldn't wait, so we had to request a refund which was extremely disappointing and added unnecessary stress before the wedding.
We did check in around 2.40pm after I noticed other people being allowed to. The room itself had everything we needed, My only criticism was that it was quite dark.
Breakfast was enjoyable, with a good choice although the poached eggs tasted of vinegar.
Overall, the poor customer service surrounding both the check-in and the lost food order made what should have been a straightforward overnight stay more stressful than it needed to be. While there were positives, the breakfast and the well-equipped room, the service let the experience down, and I left feeling disappointed.
