Love this place.

I truly don’t understand any of the negative reviews. How about make an effort to talk with the owner before passing judgement. Not everyone is socially outgoing or naturally comfortable talking with strangers. My husband and I stayed for the night on our way up to the highlands, and the owner was great when given a chance, the room was old (in the best way) and gorgeous. It was also clean and had everything we needed for our stay, including a makeup vanity that I haven’t had anywhere else. We had a beer Tenents beer down at the bar before heading up to bed and it was good. I would 100% stay here again and likely will on our back down from the highlands. Do better people, and be kinder.

This place cannot continue in operation

Our stay here was deeply disappointing. First, the bathtub was leaking and left part of the bedroom floor wet. Later, when we went to bed, we discovered blood stains on a towel and on the bed sheets. For £150 a night, this is completely unacceptable.
The problems didn’t stop there: the heating was off, the hot water ran out mid-shower, and the breakfast was very poor. When we complained, there was no apology, we were simply given a sheet and told to change the bed ourselves.
After following up by email, the owner/manager shockingly called us “fraudsters” and “scammers” instead of offering any resolution. This was one of the most unpleasant hotel experiences I’ve ever had, both in terms of hygiene and treatment of guests. I strongly advise against staying here.

Run down

Basic accommodation but clean. I suspect we might had one of the poorer rooms based on traveller pics (the yellow one with an odd lean-to en-suite.) Bed had a tired mattress & towels were old & small. The back carpark was a bit of a junk yard & overall a bit run down.

Victorian echoes

I had a single room not en-suite. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom (shared with one other room) was spotless. The hotel is architecturally a bit mysterious and has a great deal of character. It's opposite the village shop and there's a playpark just beyond (if you have children).

Avoid this hotel and Stathyre if you can. Both are sad, unwelcoming and run down .

On the plus side the room was clean and comfortable though a wee bit tatty round the edges. Breakfast was okay.
On the minus side:
1. Hotel doesn't open its front door until 4pm
2. Outside of hotel is scruffy and unkempt. How hard is it to weed a few planter boxes and paint the benches
3. Host was very unwelcoming, vague and unhelpful.
4. Beer was off. Both the Belhaven and Tenants had sour taste. Suspect nobody drinks in this bar so not enough turnover of beer. Host assured us beer was fine but we couldn't drink it. No offer of refund so we went down the street to White Stag. Not much more welcoming there but at least beer was okay.
5. Dinner was pretty awful but we had no choice. No where else to eat in Strathyre (white Stag only feeding residents). The whole village is a sad little rundown place best avoided.
6. As beer was crap we had a bottle of wine. Very poor selection and it was expensive for a poor quality cheap Ozzie wine
Overall this was an awful hotel and I would avoid at all cost. Why the host runs a hotel when he clearly doesn't like people is beyond me.
