Lovely stay

It is a pub that took me back to spending my summers with my nan and grandad in their pub in Farnborough. If you love your dog as well as others you'll love it here. We felt so at home, lovely family atmosphere and took me back to how pubs used to be. We slept really well, comfortable bed, duvet and pillows. It has a shared bathroom but it was fine, shower gel/shampoo provided. Breakfast you can help yourself to, we didn't know, so it was a bonus. We will come back here. Lovely staff, couldn't be more obliging. Only down side parking is an issue, microwave rice not the same as boiled with my chilli.

Fine for one night

Was fine for one night to avoid driving home from a family do in Cawood. Only slept there but bed was comfy, it wasn’t noisy and Kath was friendly. Hadn’t seen it was a shared bathroom when I booked but not a problem. Don’t let it put you off. Free breakfast stuff in kitchen is a nice touch.

Wasn't for me, but it has s good atmosphere with helpful staff

Bit of a mixed review as parts are very good but parts are poor. The staff were very helpful and welcoming much more so than the owner. It has a character and is not like many characterless pubs that have been updated to appease moaners that expect everything to be like a Four in a Bed winner. There is a music room with instruments. a kitchen you have full use of which is a brilliant idea and free pool is a great touch. The food is very reasonably priced, but it is very poor ours appeared to be made by a young girl and the owner and the stew and Yorkshire pudding was inedible. They put the locals first which is understandable as they are there in the winter months but please advertise it as this. The noise went on until 2 a.m with locals chatting, music on and a very loud land lady! We got no sleep and when I finally managed to get to sleep we were woken by their dog barking at 4a.m! Dogs come first in the establishment and unfortunately they have a very annoying little white terrier, I know dog lovers will hate me but we don't all love dogs particularly when they jump on your knee whilst you are eating and do a stand off as you try to get to the bar. The land lady did apologise as it was barking at my heels as I walked past but don't apologise sort it!
At the end of the day you get what you pay for a nights stay is between £50-£60 so it is very reasonable. If you are a party animal and like dogs I would recommend it, but if you want a good nights sleep and your food made without dogs wandering in and out of the kitchen and on the chairs its a no. It has got a very warm atmosphere and the staff were great and nothing was too much trouble

Great atmosphere, excellent beer and food, and great value for money

Stayed here after reading the reviews and they certainly are true,
On entering I was met with a big smile from Kath the landlady who proceeded to take me to my room.
My room was spacious, with very comfortable bed, flat screen TV, table and chairs and real furniture, not like a lot of the modern hotels with a clothes rack as your only option.
The bathroom is shared which I do not like but as they only have one other room it felt like an ensuite, very clean with nice toiletries and a big shower.
There is a kitchen to use which is shared by the two rooms that has everything you could want in it.
I went back down to have a pint and was humbled by how the locals integrated you into their conversations and how friendly and helpful Kath and the locals were,
The food here is homecooked and extremely good, the real ale here is 5-star and Kath is very knowledgeable about them.
I've stayed in many pub rooms over this year alone and this has been my favourite, ticked all the boxes and more.
If your in Cawood or surrounding areas like Selby then this is the place to stay. You will get a warm welcome, good food, an excellent variety of drinks and a comfortable bed from a landlady who is an asset to the industry.

Honeymoon weekend

Very friendly staff, especially Kath the landlady, and family. Very spacious room, and we had a great weekend, for our honeymoon weekend.
