Amazing stay
We stayed here last night and can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations!
Fantastic host , lovely bright , clean, well stocked rooms, - we had the top floor family room(s) which was absolutely perfect for our needs.
Complimentary breakfast ( which you collect and take to your room ) including cereal, fruit , yogurts and pastries, making our morning very relaxed.
Would highly recommend Filey Grange Guest House!

A comfortable home from home
My partner and I enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay at the Grange. James the host is very welcoming. Everything we needed was provided for. Our room was nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed. It felt like a real home from home.

Bit odd / mixed
A bit odd. Booked for my elderly parents. They loved the beautiful room. But less so the pre-packed alpen, individually wrapped croissants and instant Nescafé. Not sure why the blurb offers an amazing range of cooked breakfasts (see screenshot). Feels like a dishonest sell. Judging by the tone of the owner’s responses on here I’m opening myself up to an angry response but think they just need to update the blurb? Otherwise this is just a massive scam. Massively overpriced and not sure who’s awarding those 5 stars.

I’m sorry for the confusion - we haven’t served cooked breakfasts here since 2020, it looks like that information needs updating on some third party websites which look to have all been handwritten individually, they’re not coming from some central database. That blurb you posted was from circa 2016 for example. I’ll get on that immediately.
Your parents were lovely, and thank you for the kind words regarding their rooms. All our rooms are charged at a flat rate to avoid confusion when a different number of guests arrive. We have rooms for 2, 3 and 4 people available. You did book them a family room for 4 people which contains two adjoining rooms, three beds and two separate en-suites, and is charged at a higher price.
I appreciate that the price will have been high in that case, but we do have others available. Booking last minute in the middle of August might leave availability a bit limited. It’s always best to contact the property to discuss availability directly and find the best deal for you.

Over priced and not 5*
It is described as 5*-but definitely is not -- no more than a small guesthouse without any sea views or private parking . Booked as a B & B but it does not have a breakfast room but a very simple self service selection at the foot of the stairs which u take to your room where milk is in a small fridge -- did note that the previous owners did cooked breakfast but current owner does not . Good sized bedroom and excellent bathroom Enjoyed the bin wagon at 7am !! Spoke with the owner at circa 9.30am -- still in his dressing gown-- to advise a wall light was out and the TV not programmed in . Overall seriously overpriced and does not meet its description

Dear Mr Prickett,
I clocked you as a funny customer the moment you walked up my steps without so much as a greeting and displayed an odd sense of humour but I remained courteous and pleasant.
We have not served cooked breakfasts at the Filey Grange in almost ten years now, previous owners included, and this is clearly advertised on both our website and all third party booking platforms. Congratulations on your Didn’t Read What I Was Booking award. Instructions for the television are also printed on the television itself, but I appreciate we are more inclined to create and complain about problems rather than solve them. These smart TVs aren’t always intuitive and I do intend to replace the one in the room you stayed in despite its very comfortable size - I can assure you it was all ‘programmed correctly’ and was a user error.
I’m not sure about your complaint regarding the humble bin collection service, but I for one appreciate rubbish being collected and not simply left to pile up in the street. Perhaps in your locale they are ordered to wait until sir has had his coffee before they begin. Again, it seems like we are in the habit of finding complaints.
Light bulbs, furnishings and fixtures are checked meticulously on an almost daily basis, and while I do appreciate the one which had evaded detection being reported promptly perhaps the report could have been provided in a more mature and becoming manner. I do remember being quite stunned by your display as was your wife who quickly stepped in to salvage some decorum and thank me for the pleasant stay and lovely accommodation.
Finally, I do confess on that particular morning I was still in my dressing gown circa 9am. As a father of four young children and with your stay coinciding with the start of the summer holiday and the first week in nearly two years whereby I wasn’t awoken at the crack of dawn in addition to several times throughout the night by my baby daughter, who is currently traveling, I may have taken the liberty of a slow start to the day.
In fact I do distinctly remember discussing the above with you the prior day and you pointedly suggesting I have a vasectomy whilst discussing family matters. While I do appreciate your medical and family planning advice, some of us are looking to produce and nurture the next generation rather than simply importing them on the cheap.
We have very many lovely guests stay with us throughout the year, and amongst them there are always one or two who are less gracious. However this is a small family business, and while some might appreciate your odd sense of humour, I don’t find reviews like this particularly funny. By name and by nature it seems.

Superb, comfortable stay
James, the host, was very welcoming. The room was a really decent size, as was the bathroom (with bath/shower). Large fluffy towels and everything was spotless. Short walk into town and to one of the parks. Beach within easy reach. No cooked breakfast but cereals were available all the time, as were yoghurts, fresh fruit, baked goods and bottled water. Tea, coffee, herbal/fruit teas and hot chocolate available in the room. We had a fridge and were supplied with milk. An absolute gem and we’d definitely stay again.
