Noise might be an issue
The hotel was very well run, with lovely food and service. The staff could not have been better.
We found the noise coming from the guests in the room above was very noisy. We could hear the TV until late at night. Also, the floor boards would squeak with any movement.
Maybe an improvement in sound proofing would help.
We would visit again, but research which room is best.

Excellent Lunch
Visited the Grand Hotel Grasmere for lunch today.
The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly.
The walkers sharing board followed by homemade fruit scone with jam and cream were delicious.
Many thanks to chefs Richard and Jack plus all the staff.
See you again soon!

Our favourite hotel in Grasmere.
We have been coming to Grasmere for 50 years, and have been to this hotel for most of them - even when it was called The Gold Rill. The thing about The Grand is the people who work there. Incredibly friendly and helpful. It's not grand, but with the most beautiful grounds and there is absolutely no need to dress up. Food is good, and Richard in charge , who puts all his heart into his cooking, recognises all the clients and greets them as they arrive. The hotel manages to attract really lovely staff. Louise and Claire, heading up the team , with Michelle and Elena working in the restaurant and bar. These young women have had the most amazing travelling experiences and are really interesting to speak to.
The bedrooms are beautifully designed, and indeed so is the whole hotel , but if I have a criticism, it is that they have no twin-bedded rooms. This seems to be a deliberate policy, but it doesn't really suit us. In addition, it is quite expensive, so I would have expected shower caps at least. The pillows need replacing too. However, no sooner back home, than we are working out when to return. No greater praise.

POOR WELCOME
First time dining here in very well furnished surroundings with a view of the lovely garden area. Got off to a bad start with an unwelcoming offhand attitude from the restaurant manager which coloured our views immediately. Fortunately the serving staff were friendly and efficient. Main course was good but the lemon posset was a small helping and the fresh raspberries with it ended up being a few crumbs of freeze dried berries.
Should be better for the prices charged.

A Gem in Grasmere
Superb staff - Everybody, from reception to housekeeping to restaurant staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Facilities are clean and well-maintained. The room and public areas are very comfortable. We had beautiful weather our entire weeklong stay, but I wouldn’t mind staying in the room or the lounge with a coffee and a good book if the weather is not good for walking. Little things like a shower with instant hot water, adequate lighting in the room and the Nespresso machine make our stay beyond just comfortable.
The view - can’t beat the view of the well-manicured garden, the fells, the pasture and the lake.
Restaurant - The breakfast buffet is already very good with plenty of fresh fruit, but the cooked to order breakfast items are much above the average hotel breakfast, even those at 4-5 stars chain hotels. The quality of the ingredients are such that as someone who normally eats meat sparingly, I ordered the full English breakfast several times. The dinner menu items are well-presented and tasted great, with standard British fare and a few other ethnic touches. My only complaint is the smallish portion size; even a three course meal seemed inadequate after a full day of walking.
We had a great stay and have already booked for 2027.
