Great stay

We really enjoyed our one night stay at the Lutwidge Arms Hotel. Michael and Elena are very welcoming hosts. The hotel was warm and the bed comfy. We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar chatting to some very nice local customers before settling down to our delicious home cooked meal. Breakfast was very good in the big conservatory. We left the hotel and headed to the motorway on a lovely sunny day, driving a through the beautiful Lake District.

Horrible staff/chef, made to eat chips in my van outside!

Chef/owner extremely rude. Working away from home and got a portion of chips from local takeaway to take to my room and for the first time ever in hundreds of hotels I was approached and asked “what was in my bag” personal question first of all , and to then be made to turn around from reception and made to eat dinner in my van as I wasn’t allowed snacks or chips in the room!! Very smug and horrible unfriendly attitude from the person with no consideration, not told anywhere or no signs anywhere saying no food in room. On my way to the van the guy was trying to get me to then sit in the bar with my chips after a shift and eat but absolutely not. He only tried to stop me on my way out because he realised what he had done, Would rather sit in the van at this point Paid over £130 to eat my snacks and chips in my work van because of the rudeness of the chef and then sleep on an uneven spring bed. Never again will I stay in there, bearing in mind there is nothing about so limited to pick up food on way home. Horrible. Disappointed.

The staff were amazing, getting up at 4 am to cook us breakfast before we rode from coast to coast.

Wonderful place to stay

Staff were friendly and very accomodating throughout, providing a comfortable vibe throughout the whole stay. Food was great. The room was ensuite, and kept clean and comfy, with good amenities provided. Would stay again!

We stayed on bank holiday weekend and it was dead. The bar/pub had 3 people in it, there was no background music or atmosphere so was just a little awkward. We moved into the dining room with the intention of having dinner but changed our minds after seeing the condition. The tables appeared to be dressed all differently, I couldn’t figure out if they’d been used by previous customers or not, just presented as untidy and unclean. We sat down on one table after finding 2 chairs with seats that weren’t completely worn down but the cutlery just looked unclean and we thought it best to seek food elsewhere for dinner on both evenings. The lady who seemed to be juggling every job was very pleasant and kind, she just presented as absolutely run off her feet!
The kettle in the room was covered in dust and the bathroom was questionable, there was a weird brown mark next to the toilet under the window seal smothered across the wall, on first glance this appeared to be faeces but I think it must have been some sort of sealant that turned brown, we can only hope. The shower was dirty where people stood and there was a long strip plastic hanging off the bottom of the glass which connected to the bath. I’m not sure what to expect from a 3 star but the previous reviews for this place read very well but in reality It’s not a true reflection. We were told we were the only ones staying for breakfast and felt bad for declining so we had breakfast once, it was alright in fairness!
