An interesting experience

This is less a hotel and more a collection of self-service rooms. That said, it's an interesting place to stay if you want to enjoy the slightly spooky atmosphere of a once proud hotel with an amazing interior. Reception is staffed intermittently and there's no bar or restaurant, though there is a smart dining room and an amazing old ballroom (see photo) that would work well for weddings and other celebrations. My room was large, clean, overlooked the town square and had a good bathroom with plentiful hot water. The place must be difficult to heat, but was warm throughout. For breakfast, head across the road to JD Cafe for a good value fry-up. I used this 'hotel' as a stop on the Offas Dyke path and would happily overnight there again. Let's hope The Knighton finds its purpose in the 21st Century, possibly as a performing arts centre for the town.

Best thing it's in the middle of town

One of the strangest hotels I have stayed at for a long time, unmanned, one our group managed to get the pass codes for the room before the man on the desk left, which was handy as if you call the number you get through to an office who tells you there should be somebody there, who had already left. Between us we got it sorted & we got into our rooms, which appears to be clean & tidy. Look like they had, had a bit of TLC recently. Worlds smallest bathroom but it works. The pillows were the hardest the I have ever known, the curtains were as much use as a chocolate tea pot steed light outside so could do with black out curtains, lift not our service not an issue to us, gents toilet out of service, no on site facilities for food etc. Would we use it again probably as it's in the middle of town with pubs etc nearby. Don't set your expectations too high & you won't be disappointed

No Flexibility Despite Honest Booking Error

My 75-year-old brother booked accommodation for a trip, but he mistakenly reserved the Knighton Hotel instead of a property in Kington. The booking was for a three-night stay from 14 to 17 August 2025.
He realised the error very quickly and attempted to cancel the booking, giving the Knighton around a months notice. Despite this early notice — and the fact that the check-in date has not yet arrived — the hotel declined to offer any refund or partial credit, citing non-refundable policy terms.
We understand the importance of policies, but hoped for some flexibility given the genuine nature of the mistake and the opportunity for the hotel to rebook the room. Unfortunately, they chose to enforce the policy strictly.
This experience has left us disappointed, and we would not consider booking here again.

Useful accommodation for walkers but should reduce price abit

We had a comfy bed in a clean room and slept well. The receptionist was friendly and helpful getting us more milk and a new remote for TV. As walkers we found the kitchen facilities useful to fill and freeze water bottles and leave food in fridge. Check with receptionist about key for kitchen ready for the morning if leaving early. We managed the front door key code but was abit tricky. Lots of places for breakfast and local shops.

Poor stay in Knighton

I stayed in a twin bedded room on the 2nd floor. The bedroom was of a reasonable size but was furnished very basically. The bathroom was small and it was a squeeze to get in to the shower The T.V. in the room had a mind of it's own it kept switching from the channel I had chosen. The noise from the traffic was annoying I could even hear people conversing outside. The room was not cleaned after the first night, I only stayed 2 nights. Only positive was the staff who were very polite.
