Pleasant hostel in Old public house

A pleasant hostel within walking distance of London Bridge tube.
Rooms are clean and communal kitchen is well equipped.
Very good Starbucks around the corner.
The area around the hostel is very quiet at weekends. Even you want more Life you can walk to Borough Food Market.

Horrible Experience

My friend and I stayed at the Dover Castle during the heat wave in July of 2025. It began great because it was relatively easy for us to find from the tube. I'll also admit my friend is pretty good with directions, and she was able to guide us most places around London.
Location - It is farther away from the city, historical parts, and theaters. There is very little nearby that I was able to find, walking distance, at night, but the tube is a short 3 minute walk away.
The atmosphere felt like I was in an older hospital. The mattresses were very thing, as were the pillow, and from my experience, there was a man sleeping in my bunk. It was odd, as I had a number that showed this particular bunk, underneath my friends as mine. We also had an older gentlemen somehow in a room of 5 other young females. I believe there was a mix up due to the fact this gentlemen let us know that he specifically requested a room of males only.
The heat was unbearable each night, but later in our stay, we realized the fan was not working. Our fan was smoking when plugged in, so I had gone down 3 flights of stairs to ask about it. After a misunderstanding, the person at the front desk gave me a fan to carry back up the stairs. Although, I will say that I am very grateful our fellow travelers noticed the smoke coming from the fan.
Space wise, the bathrooms are very small, as are the showers. It is not the cleanest place, but not the dirtiest.
All that being said, this is just one travelers experience. If we had gone during a cooler time, the fan did not start smoking thereby causing me to have to lug a metal fan 3 flights of stairs up, and the few bed mishaps had not occurred, it could have been better. There is one shared kitchen area for all 3 floors, and 1-2 bathrooms per floor.

Staff were friendly. Room was incredibly hot though, it made for a restless sleep. A large fan was provided but its no good for ones sleeping on the upper bunks which I was. Otherwise, location is great.
