Expectations were not met!
The area is safe and relatively quiet. There are bus stops 50 meters from the apartment that take you to Soho/city center etc. (1x change to the metro). There is a direct bus line to Hyde Park. Abbey Road, known for the Abbey Studios and also the Beatles, is a 20-minute walk away. There are electric heaters in the rooms, but only some of them work.
Disappointing and negative:
The furnishings were not as described in the advert! The living room is much smaller, the sofa is very hard and uncomfortable, the carpet is old and stained, the kitchen is tiny and clearly showing its age. Kitchen utensils are rare and some are quite unappetizing and urgently need replacing! It also looked as if many people had avoided the kitchen because of these defects.
There were three of us and we needed both beds. Although we knew we were coming, both mattresses were completely worn out! As soon as you lay down, you could feel every single spring on your back and it hit the bottom of the mattress. We felt the same the next morning. The landlady reacted very quickly and replaced the mattresses.
The bedroom and the living room both face the terrace with windows that are very poorly insulated or not insulated at all, as there is a gap of at least 5mm between the window and the wall (in the living room)! It's quite loud (railway tracks nearby) and the worst thing: there is a very loud air conditioning system in the courtyard. It starts at around 10:00 in the morning and ends at around 1:00 at night!! Anyone sleeping on this side of the bedroom needs earplugs or comes later than 1:00, otherwise it's very annoying. The landlord said they were working on clarifying this with the person in charge...This situation had already been complained about on Booking by another guest. Well, you can imagine the rest yourself!
There are ants in the living room!!
Don't forget: The entrance door to the apartment has large holes directly below the lock (see photo)! This is a major concern in terms of security, right up until the last day! Here too, the landlady was friendly, but responded with bla...bla :-(
We had the room on the ground floor no. 18.
I would have thought it correct of the landlady to have reduced the price due to the defects.
Conclusion: not recommended for the money! Very disappointing!
Recommendation: book into a hotel early, then it's reasonably cheap and more comfortable!
