Room was lovely quite a few cracks in the tiles in our bathroom and random hairs found in the shower but rooms was clean and such a good size for a family.
Kids loved the pool and sitting round it on the loungers.
Breakfast was really nice

Don’t go there…
We booked two rooms in the same category. One of the rooms was very nice and matched the description provided. Unfortunately, the other room falls well below that standard. It was extremely dark, as the window is positioned so high that it is impossible to see out of it, and the room is generally very tired and unappealing.
In addition, there is a problem with the shower. The water is scalding hot and the temperature cannot be adjusted. A maintenance technician has been called, but the issue wasn’t resolved during our stay.
We asked for a reduction in the price of the room, but the manager on duty explained that the only compensation they could offer was a bottle of white wine for a quite poor dinner. We do not consider this to be an adequate solution, as we have not received the standard of accommodation and service that we paid for. But anyhow, this was the only compensation we were offered (unfortunately, our stay was prepaid).
We would consider a refund of at least 50% of the cost of the room without shower to be a fair resolution. The hotel manager agreed, but couldn’t grant our request.
Besides all the above, the hotel is very tired both inside and outside. The staff is friendly, but completely lacks eye for the details - and service.
Cleanliness could be much improved.
Based on all the above, I can’t recommend booking a stay with Beechfield House. Instead I’d recommend The Manor House in Castle Combe just around the corner.

Holds itself back from being any good
I'll start this review by saying that, in an alternate universe, I could be writing a completely different and much more positive review of Beechfield House, as I really do think it has the potential to be good, if not great. Sadly, our experience just wasn't that.
To start, the arrival was tepid at best; not really a warm welcome, but certainly not rude. It was functional enough and explained the layout and timings of the hotel.
Our stay was in one of the top rooms of the hotel and, with it being an exceptionally hot day, the first thing to hit us was the heat. To say the room felt like a sauna was an understatement. There was a token fan in the room, but this only served to push hot air around, which made for quite an unpleasant night's sleep. I certainly think, with increasing temperatures, air conditioning is something hotels like this absolutely should invest in for the comfort of their guests.
After unloading our luggage, we decided to grab a drink at the bar and sit around the pool... which was quickly aborted. One of our biggest complaints about Beechfield House is that guests' experiences are at the mercy of families and how they choose to behave in the pool. During our time at the hotel, the pool was more like something you would find at Butlins rather than a civilised, relaxing country retreat for the family. Ball games, kids bombing into the pool, and all manner of splashing was what greeted us and, judging by the expressions on other guests' faces, we weren't alone in our disappointment. To be clear, this wasn't just one family ruining it for the rest, it seemed like the hotel had a free-for-all policy regarding behaviour in and around the pool. Sadly, it wasn't until 6:30 in the evening that the pool was actually calm enough to enjoy a gentle swim, and that wasn't for very long before we were joined by kids once again bombing into the pool and hastening our exit. This is far from a relaxing place to stay, based on our experience.
Another aspect of our stay which surprised us was their overly relaxed attitude to dogs, which are seemingly allowed to roam free and bother other guests, whether they like it or not. We were travelling with two very well-behaved dogs who remained on leads and by our side at all times. Other guest's dogs actually roamed the hotel unaccompanied, moving between owners, which was not only shocking but wholly unwelcome. Another dog was left to bark incessantly at guests whilst they tried to swim, with the owner only pretending to feel embarrassed but actually doing little to stop the obnoxious noise... and staff were just happy to allow it all to happen, which was exceptionally disappointing.
I will say the bar was the standout of the trip. The lady who served us, who was arguably the busiest member of staff we saw, was incredibly pleasant and very proficient. Certainly the best member of staff we encountered. Another gentleman too, who served us on day two, is worth mentioning as he showed a very welcome personality and served with a smile and enthusiasm. Both employees really were a credit to the hotel and helped save our stay...to a degree.
Again, whilst touching on the positives, the breakfast staff on the Monday (only) were very pleasant and efficient. We enjoyed breakfast outside on the Terrace -the table was set, we were promptly seen to, and our needs were completely satisfied (food aside!). Day two, however, was a completely different story, with clearly a B-team of staff who seemed chaotic and quite clueless. No tables were set, when the cutlery arrived there were two knives and no fork, a saucer with no cup, no teaspoons, and when the girl went to find some sugar for the morning coffee, she never returned. Our daughter had to take over serving duties, repeatedly having to go back and forth to find things the staff hadn't done. The Tuesday staff would absolutely benefit from spending some time with the far-superior A-team from Monday!
On to the food and, whilst I accept tastes differ, we found it wholly disappointing. That's certainly not to say it was inedible, but the breakfasts on both days were nothing more spectacular than you'd find at a service station. We also ordered sandwiches from the lunch menu, which came with completely the wrong bread from what was ordered. The bread itself was unforgivably dry, and there was very little in the way of culinary flair to justify the nearly £10 price tag for each sandwich, as they could have come straight out of a meal deal.
What I will heap praise (and a little criticism) on is the place itself, which at first glance was stunning, complete with two fawns playfully messing around on the grass. Due to the extreme heat of late, the grass was understandably burnt to a crisp, however, I think a lot more effort could have been made with the plant pots (for weeds?!) outside the front as, in places, the hotel actually looked quite derelict. There were also some very large trees that had unnervingly come down in the grounds, smashing a rose pavilion, and I am not convinced this was recent incident, though didn't walk underneath, just in case. Those issues aside, walking around the grounds was pleasant and staying out to watch the bats at night was a joy to behold.
As the title of my review suggests, I do think there's a much better experience to be had at Beechfield House if enough care and consideration were put into practice. The experience of ALL guests should be made a priority and the "free-for-all" attitude towards families with young kids maybe reined in for those without children, or with children who behave. We recently stayed at the infinitely better Bishopstrow, who really have the balance right when it comes to entertaining families with children without allowing the pool to become a family fun day. Though we didn't have an evening meal, the food we did have was enough to suggest we dodged a bullet and, if that isn't the case, I would suggest the kitchen make as much effort with the lunchtime offerings (and read the ticket!!).
Maintenance is an issue throughout the hotel and, whilst I appreciate that a hotel of this size, with so few staff, could struggle to stay on top of it, there were some cleanliness issues and the most bizarrely fitted toilet seat I've ever encountered that could use some immediate attention.
All in all, we left very disappointed with Beechfield House. Not just because of our experience, but because we know it could be so much better. As mentioned above, we have recently stayed at Bishopstrow and were anticipating a stay of similar quality, which this wasn't. That is a hotel that places guests, and their pets, as its highest priority, even providing your furry companions with an array of treats upon arrival. At Beechfield, you'd be right to question what the money goes towards when you pay over the odds for your pets' stay.
We've ruled out a return visit.

Delightful Hotel, Beautiful old House, Quirky atmosphere.
The Hotel is just off the main road but is set in extensive grounds so is very quiet. Beautiful "Country House" building. Very welcoming reception, almost effusive with "delight" to greet people. The Hotel has a slightly "personal" feel to it in that the decor seems to be the result of an individual spotting items that they think will look good and buying them without any real regard to themes or colour schemes. However the whole doesn't clash but does give a quirky feel to the place. There is a cocktail bar with a neon sign and a strange decor somewhere between 1920 and 1970 ! I liked it all. The restaurant is fairly simple with a pub like menu but the food was very well cooked, well presented and excellent. I had some of the best fish & chips I've had in a long time. Service was cheerful and efficient. Bedroom was large, and comfortable and bathroom was spotless. Decor was very basic with dull painted walls, few paintings and odd fittings. Again not unpleasant and somehow charming. We would definitely stay here again. It was delightful.

Had a very good overnight stay. Room was very clean, good linens, comfy bed and modern bathroom. The breakfast was very nice and we sat out on the terrace. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Of course, the best part was the beautiful pool. A perfect temperature and very relaxing on the sun loungers.
